"After 4 Nightmares, the origin has arrived!"
RESIDENT EVIL -0-
Hard rain is slamming down upon the cold, silent earth. The living dead once again stagger lifelessly in search of food. Umbrella has begun it's goal; To enhance life. However, the biggest problem the world will face is about to arrive. S.T.A.R.S. ( A special agency in which is trained to deal with the unthinkable.) Well, almost. Just how did this disaster really happen? Whom is responsible for this unimaginable catastrophe? Perhaps a governmental agency... or just one certain individual. No one has ever known why or how it truely began other than the fact that it is for real and severely deadly. That is... until now.
Story: Rebecca Chambers is a young girl. One with great mentality and doesn't seem to run from a problem. A rookie to S.T.A.R.S.( Special Tactics And Rescue Squad), she is about to uncover a gruesome event that would only be a prelude to what would become a worldly virus. Due to a helicopter crash, She must travel through the desolate woods, and close the door to safety as she enters the macabre surroundings in which she was placed. Damaging rain harshly comes down onto the silent train. The motionless train seems "un-natural". It's not normal for a train of this size to be here... is it? As Rebecca proceeds, she encounters a man believed to be a mass murderer by the name of Billy Cohen. What is his mysterious persona? Thankfully his background unfolds over the lapse of the game. Will he to be a hazard for this new member of the special task force? Putting trust in one another is a must if they both want to escape this grusome nightmare. Along their walk, the dead seem to wake up hungry. The smell of flesh lingers before the corpses longing for it. What a nightmare for these two unsuspecting individuals. there is nut one way to survive, and that is to work together. Umbrella; the company in which creates deadly chemicals and secret experiments would seem to be the source. With the many different bio organic weapons, and the devilish minds that created this plan, the world would alter from it's former state. However, it appears that the original disaster was not a mistake, but merely revenge. On whom, players will have to find out for themselves if they wish to encounter the story. Resident Evil may not be the best title, but definately rates an 8 for outstanding background and diolouge. 8/10
Graphics: This is without a doubt, a very realistic game. The shadows along the dim walls, the different objects rolling back and forth along the train ride all go well with this specific title. Resident Evil 0 runs great for such a little system. A lot of time and effort was put into it to give players an image of realism in this latest survival horror. To be perfectly honest, one can not describe the power of this game's graphics. This really shows players that Nintendo has a lot more to offer than some would think. Another fact proves that they will only get better. For a little system, Nintendo can store a lot of power for us all. I give the grapics an easy 10. 10/10
Button Configuration: Like most of the other Resident Evil titles out there, they pretty much remain the same except for one difference betwee nthis particular game and the re-make. Instead of hitting the "C" stick down,, they removed that feature and just had the down and "B" combo. This game like the rest also seems to make your thumbs and pointing fingers a little tired and somewhat sore. However, that isn't a good enough reason to not play. I'm sure everyone will adjust to the configuration quite easily. Thus, from me, it recieves an 8. Mainly because it is like every other title. 8/10
Gameplay: Resident Evil 0 is a rather difficult game to play. The new feature allows the one-player game to control two characters at once. Easy? HA! Not at all. this game is quite aggravating when it comes to controlling Rebecca and Billy. Whether you make one stay behind as you run ahead , or move one while you control the other by C-stick, your in for a time of trial and error. The new types of creatures like the leach zombies, or the giant man eating frogs also add death in every section of the game. Not to mention the giant killer bat or the infamous scorpion. I'll let players uncover the rest. Just know one thing and remember this little help of knowledge; conserve your ammo. This is not like the ones after this scenario as to the ammunition your character holds along thier dark, violent path that they must defeat. If one player is attacked, your other (Billy or Rebecca) will shoot allowing his or her ammo to decrease to smaller amounts over time. If one has not played any of the other games, or they wish to play this first, they will see that this game is not one that a gamer will run through in a blink of an eye so to speak. However, there is just 1 problem I encountered throughout the entire game. The loading times. At times you will find the loading between rooms takes forever. I don't know if it's with just some games, or the entire drive the ran it from, but it is rather annoying when you want to get in there and kill some zombie or solve those hard-to-solve puzzles. Other than that, the game simply rules. Hence, the title recieves a 10 all the way. 10/10
Replay Value: This game certainly is not a quick game. This makes it one that some may not run through over and over again. However, they added a feature called "Leech Hunter". It's just something to pass some time I suppose. Is it a good side game? I don't know, I haven't played it... yet. So, if you like racing through the train, or what I call the "Mini-Mansion", this game is for you. Like the others, you will recieve a grade for your performance and skill that you obtain in these horrifically loving games. Based on how you do, you can get different weapons, and the all time favorite of having the ulimited ammunition for your desirable "play again" modes that we all get in. Will I play it again in the future? Of course, it contains some of the best imagery yet to play at this current time we live in. The sharpness and vivid details soothe ones mind as they enter the decaying world in the next chapter of the Resident Evil series.play gets an 8 for the devious plans that Capcom has released for our enjoyment. 8/10
Overall rating: This game is a must-have for the die hard Resident Evil fans out there. The game holds many malevolent creatures and deadly creations for you to get eaten by. Is it worth buying? Definately! Especially being that it is now only $20.00 at all retailers or perhaps even less. So if you have a little money left over from bills, or have recieved birthday money, please buy it. This is a good game and holds much gore and blood content. May survival horror based games continue to come forth for our enjoyment, because they have been great so far. Resident evil 0 also holds great potential for more titles from Capcom and seems to be a great game for fans of this magnificent series of blood soaked carnage in which we love so much in the memorable game known as Resident Evil. 9/10
