Zoids: Battle Legends

Review by NUKLEARexodus

"Join the fight for Planet Zi!"

The game is very fun, and is worth buying for any Zoids fan.

GRAPHICS the graphics are dated but the game is a translation of Zoids Versus II, which was released a year ago in Japan. There is also some slowdown when there are a lot of things happening on screen at once, but the framerate is usually pretty stable. Also the Zoids models are very well done, they look just like the plastic models and are very detailed.

GAMEPLAY the controls seem clunky at first but once you get used to them its pretty seamless and easy to handle the Zoids. The weapons switch from one to another even while moving, shooting someone with your blaster than jumping into the air to dodge there physical attack and switching to your blades to move in for the kill can be done very easily. The versus mode does not feature co-op and is only 1st player vs. second player. However, it is still very fun and depending on the map you are on, it is very strategic. There are many Zoids, a lot of customization options, and a many tings to unlock. It isn't too hard to get money in the game. Also the AI of your partner is pretty bad and your better off fighting by yourself. The AI of enemy Zoids are pretty good and will give a decent challenge, but they can be cheap at times.

SOUND the music in the game isn't the best but it fits. The sound effects such as the weapons and the Zoids are also pretty well done, however my one major complaint is the voice acting. It sounds nothing like the anime series and you can definitely tell they didn't get the original voice actors. Some of the voices are done decently, however voices like Raven's... lets just say I'd rather put the game on mute then listen to his voice.

STORY the story follows takes place in the Chaotic century timeline and the Battle mode takes place in either the NC/0 timeline or the Chaotic Century timeline depending on which character you choose. There is also a third timeline that takes place in the "Zoids Versus" timeline. The story isn't great but the main focus of the game is obviously the customization of your Zoids, not the story.

OVERALL I'd give the game an 8 out of 10- its a good game but it could have been better, If you are a Zoids fan then go and get this game now. However if your not a big Zoids fan and just looking for a fun game to play, then give it a rent and see if you like it first before you buy it.
