Evolution Skateboarding
Review by mrPICKLENOSE
"It's no Tony Hawk, but its ok"
Many have tried and all have failed to top the Tony Hawk series of games as the king of skateboarding games. After the horrendous ESPN X Games Skateboarding Konami decided to throw it's name back into the running for the king of the skateboarding genre and while Evolution Skateboarding is better than its predecessor it also ensures that Tony will keep his crown.
Graphics: 6/10
Nothing spectacular, Decent animations and real nice blood effects (it smears on the ground when you crash), but the game has heavy slowdown in parts.
Sound: 5/10
The sound effects are ok and some of the music is pretty good(three songs by Primus, all right!), but for the most part most of the music makes you want to gouge out your eardrums. Most of the songs thoguh seem out of place in the game. While most songs fit, songs like Elevator by The Dickies is extremely out of place.
Controls: 4/10
The controls for the game are sluggish and unresponsive.
Gameplay: 6/10
The gameplay is basically a rip-off of the first three Tony Hawk games, where you have a certain time to complete goals. There's one big problem though: the trick system. The trick system for this game is very, very limited; Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 had more tricks in the game..
Replayabiltiy: 6/10
With a lot of Konami and generic characters to unlock (Solid Snake and a Gorilla just to name a few) or you can create your own skater or your own board, so you can spend hours with this game not get bored. The multiplayer is standard stuff, ok for a rainy day, but nothing to keep you coming back.
Rent or Buy: Rent or Buy when it's cheap
This game is fun for awhile and there is nothing very original about this game to warrant paying more than twenty bucks for it.
Overall: 6/10
If you can accept this game for what it is and what it isn't you might be able to have an enjoyable time and remember this: there are better skateboarding game's out there, but they don't have Solid Snake.
