FIFA Soccer 2004
Review by AJM Ruler
"Challenge the WORLD'S greatest teams?"
This is a review for Fifa Soccer 2004 for the Gamecube. As much of a soccer fanatic am I, I couldn't wait to get Fifa Soccer 2004. After playing so MUCH Fifa 2002, though skipping Fifa 2003(Could never find it). I was able to get this game for Christmas, I couldn't wait to play it, this game had so much potential. Sadly, EA didn't deliver what I wanted, and I ended up playing this game a LOT less.
Graphics: (9) As with every new incarnation of the Fifa series, particularly the Gamecube version, the graphics look a tad better than last years. Since I skipped Fifa 2003, and went straight to Fifa 2004, I can see a HUGE upgrade in the graphics department. All the character models look just like their real life counter parts. And the amazing fact is that their are hundreds and hundreds of different guys on different teams. As with the arenas, more detail is added, and makes the soccer stadium FEEL like your in a soccer stadium.
Sound: (8) Sound in Fifa Soccer 2004 is more improved than the last two Fifas that hit the Gamecube. The broadcasters that talk through the game are really accurate with what they say, and at times nice to hear what they have to say about your team and the opposing team. Characters don't say much other than a few grunts. Sound of the ball moving just makes me feel like I am really playing soccer.
Game Play: (5) The worst part of Fifa Soccer 2004 is the actual Game play itself. A game can have great graphics and awesome sound, but if it doesn't have the great game play to finish it off, the game won't be as good. Fifa 2004 tries even more to be realistic with new additions such as Off the Ball control and a new Career mode. The new career mode does all right, but the Off the Ball control can get quite confusing. The game just feels sluggish and isn't as addictive as Fifa 2002.
Storyline (If any): (7) Since this is a sports game, this obviously doesn't have a story. Though a cool Career mode it has which features managing budgets, promote and relegate players, and you can also guide your franchise to the CHAMPIONSHIP. Although fun it is managing your team, the Game play still suffers.
Summary: (7.25) Some might find the Off the Ball control really good, but I find it hard and difficult to use. If your a fan of the Fifa series and don't mind drastic changes, this game is for you. With a now cheap price, this game is great for Gamecubers looking for a good soccer game.
Pros:
+Slick Graphics
+Nice commentary
+Great Career Mode
Cons:
-Confusing game play
-Off the Ball control isn't all that great
