Wario World
Review by bullet sword
"Not as good as you expect. Out of your interest once you play."
Intro.
Wario. Mario's (other) rival. So you are Wario. He got very rich, then he got poor and now you have to get all his fortune back. Sadly, his adventure was boring and he has to take you along.
Game-play: 4/10
This is not even close to being as cool, fast, powerful, or even like Mario. You just run through stages punching these guys to death. When you see some big enemies, you can knock them down and pick them up. Then you can spin him around like Mario would. It doesn't really matter what you do because there are hardly any fighting combos to do, making the game experience short. Even if there was more, it wouldn't matter because the enemies die so quickly. So quickly that there is no need for strategy or tactics. You just use the same old moves you have.
Although that picking up enemies sounds like a cool thing, you will be doing the same thing to them over and over and over again. What do you do? You can jump and slam your foes onto the ground. If you don't really feel like it, then do that spinning throw. That same throw that Mario used against Bowser. Combat can't get any worse.
Well. There are some items to collect. In fact, this is what the game is all about. Beating people up and collecting treasure. One of the most funniest treasures you have to collect is your N64! Now that's funny. NOT!
Environment interactivity: 2/10
Although that you have to, it's not as cool as you think. You just break stuff that come in your way and smash boxes for items. That is pretty much it. You will eventually find some very easy boss puzzles. VERY easy.
Graphics: 5/10
Yeah. It looks good. Very good for a game for the Game-Cube. It's like the art on the cover came to life. The first time you play, you will just see some regular bad guys. When you move onto the next stage, you will see the same guys again, but they are in different colors and have different designs. It's kind of like seeing those annoying dinosaurs in the first level come back as skeletons in the next level in the graveyard. It really is bad. It would of been good if we had more enemy variety. The environment is all that matters when you talk about graphics.
Sound: 4/10
Pausing the game makes a funny sound and so does everything else. The music sounds evil, but evil with stupidity. You can be Wario with this music, but everything else might not fit into it. You will hear Wario shout comments to defeated enemies like "HAVE A ROTTEN DAY!". It replaces "HAVE A NICE DAY!". No. Not good. Not clever.
Control: 6/10
The only thing that is good about this game. It really serves you well, but you will be mashing one button throughout the entire game along with a few others for just a little while. It may sound obvious, but it would be nice to have a button to do a bunch of other things.
The good, the bad, and the ugly:
The good:
- This is an action game.
The bad:
- The combat
- Lack of strategy
- Too easy
- Too short
- EXTREMELY REPETITIVE
- The designs on the enemies.
The ugly:
- Everything under the "bad" category.
- The music
Overall: 3/10
I was really hoping that this game was going to succeed, but it sure didn't. I would not recommend this title, so everyone else is better off with a whole bunch of other games. Make sure that it's not this.
