"This little game packs one heck of a punch"

Alien Hominid is one of the best side scrollers this generation. Why you ask? The graphical style is incredible, the sound is unique and creative, and the levels are so well designed it will make you want to make your own new grounds game in hopes of making it too real consoles.

Originating from a small game on the poplar site new grounds, one level was turned into approximately 15 levels of intense frantic side scrolling action. every aspect of this game is great, except for the few little annoyances that often plague games.

GRAPHICS 10/10

They fit the style of the game perfect. The graphics are different, which in this case is good. The effects placed in this game like smoke and fire effects were extremely effective. And above all, knowing that this game was all hand drawn is even that much more appealing. The graphics are the icing on the cake.

SOUND 7/10

Nothing spectacular here. When playing Alien Hominid the sound needs to be good to help in the frantic atmosphere of the game. The final boss music definitely sets the theme of the match, and some of the music is catchy if you can pick it out from the action on screen. But sound is not what is most important in Alien Hominid.

GAME PLAY 9/10

Any 2d fan owes to to themselves to pick this game up for the smooth and frantic side scrolling game play that they are used to from years ago. The bosses are extravagant and entertaining to play. And you would think that this game is impossible, but it is playable. There are areas and certain levels that will leave you frustrated, but that is good considering this game is VERY short. There is a system that lets you collect hats and put them on your Hominid. There is also mini games to give you some extra fun, but most of them are pretty mediocre. And to top that all off you have multi player. Multi player is a great asset to any side scroller, and much fun can be made by joining up with a buddy.

FINAL THOUGHTS?

Alien hominid is the side scroller we have been waiting for. There are a few small problems like the short length and the repetitive nature of the title, but that is backed up by creative graphics and some multi player fun. Alien Hominid may not be everyone's "Viewtiful Joe" but 30 dollars U.S retail price is definitely a plus. This little Hominid will pack one heck of a good time.
