Call of Duty: Finest Hour
Review by zelgamer
""and they were, a band of Brothers.""
Medal of Honor for the PS1 is the game that made me like First Person Shooters... (well, that and Goldeneye for the N64) it also introduced me to World War II far before American History in High School. From the footage of the actual war in it, and then with the release of its sequal, I got into WWII alot. I started watching films and reading books. Saving Private Ryan then came out, and I loved the movie. (Band of Brothers was even better XD) It portrayed WWII so good.
Then I found out Steven Spielburg also created the Medal of Honor games so I was hooked on them for a while. Frontline eventually came out years later and it brought back so many memories from Saving Private Ryan. I liked that game, but I realized one thing. Though it was called frontline, only the first level, and some scattered ones about, were actually in the frontlines of the war. Infact, you find yourself playing these missions by yourself most of the time.
After, I kind of fell away from 1st person shooters. For some reason, the wave of 1st Person shooters came in with barely any good quality. Even though I really liked Halo, there were only 10 missions! How short is that. All the 007 games made by EA were crap... well, that is a little harsh, but not worth to buy since they offered a mere 12 missions. Goldeneye had... 30? 27? Somewhere around there.
This game finally comes out, and I hear it is better than Medal of Honor. I am thinking, well... Medal of Honor is in no way the best, but, I have always liked the WWII footage and WWII, and in my opinion they covered it the best. Well... now we are in April of whatever day I am righting this, and I have just completed the game. (I bought it four days ago.) So now let us move on with the review.
Originality-6
This is Medal of Honor with more action... I mean, I like it better than MoH, but... the way it looks, feels, and all the prerendered sub menus and such is so much like MoH, at least MoH had multiplayer which this game does not have. What is great though that othere WWII games do not deliver is, you feel like you are really fighting in a way. You will always fight along your brothers in arms. You never fight alone.
Graphics-8
I expected alot more for some reason. They are good though, and they get the point across. From the buildings to the polluted smokey sky. It looks nice, the character models could have been better, but... it is good. Blood looks kind of fake when you actually see it, and though you do get the feel of how insane WWII was, they do not come close in how violent it was. (SPR and Band of Brothers does, but those are movies.)
Sound-10
I am really impressed. The sound effects go all out. From the rifles firing, and explosions, even people screaming mad like. It is superb (sp?). The music is really great as well. If anyone reading this are fans or were satisfied with the music from Band of Brothers and Enemy at the Gate, then you will be very satisfied with the music in this game.
Control-8
Could be done better, but, they are good enough. I got confused alot though in the first levels, I kept thinking I was playing MoH. (Since this is a clone after all... one that sadly surpasses).
replay-4
Wow... 30 bucks and... I perhaps will only play this game 2 more. I am really disappointed here. There is only the main game... and that is it. There are no awards at all for completing the levels. It is very... how can I say... blah. I gave it a 4 because the main game is so good! That is all there is though, and it doesnt, or will not last.
Overall-8
Rent or Buy
This is a bit... on your own. I bought it, and will not regret it. There is NO multiplayer though. That may turn off alot of people. So... this is your choice here. I recommend a rent however... because though the main mode is better than the new MoH games, at least those have more to offer.
