Dragon Ball Z: Sagas

"Change is good?"

The wonder of DBZ was often expressed through fighting games. Though the series got plenty of viewers on the TV, gamers didn't see it as a notable series. There always seemed to be a problem with the games that made everyone pissed off. This game is no exception. Atari didn't deliver what they promised. For shame.

Story: 4/10

The Game generally respects the DBZ storyline well, but the overall game ruins it. Half the time you defeat bosses which, anime wise, should have murdered you. Also, after you defeat a boss, more often than not you'll see that boss kicking your characters ass 10 times harder. What the hell?

Controls: 7/10

The controls are simple enough. A to jump. A in midair to hover. ( I refuse to say fly) B is to punch, Y to kick, X for ki attacks and R to guard. That's really the most used controls. The others you usually learn over time anyway.

Gameplay: 3/10

Ow! Atari promised a free-roaming world where we could blow up everything and kick major ass along the way. WRONGO! Instead it's very straight forward keeping you on track and you're also supposed to find coins, Ki and health capsules along the way. This becomes necessary when the games difficulty become near impossible without decent health. The "flying" we were promised is just a weak hover. You're forced to remain at the same altitude until you land. Yup. The game is split into different levels where you just battle wave after wave of enemies, then fight a ridiculously powerful boss that takes about 15 minutes to take down. Boring!

Replayability: 1/10

Why would you want to replay it? You might get secret characters, but they're either under powered or over powered. Then only reason you'd want to play is to get all the capsules and coins, and you don't even need them anymore!

Overall: 5/10

This game cannot compete with the fighters. I just hope that if they redo the concept, the do it right!

Buy or Rent: Rent. You could probably beat the game by then anyway. I only recommend buying for a hardcore fan with money to burn.
