1080 Avalanche
Review by WaterMario222
"When are they going to run out of sports?"
Nintendo has decided on a snowboarding game for the GameCube. Lately, sports games such as this one have been going down in quality. I regret to say that this is one of them. The Nintendo 64 version was so much more fun and innovative.
Graphics: 8/10
Let's start out with one of the nice parts of this game, typically, a snowboarding game would need good graphics to reign supreme. The graphics are pretty good, better than I expected anyway. The sonw looks crystal clear, the characters unique, and the various types of snowboards with the different colors and logos make this section complete. The different stages and environments look fantastic and were not at all rushed. However, you won't be able to see much detail in anything, just the big picture view of objects. This is where the graphics section falls apart and therefore prevents it from getting a perfect score. However, I'm pleased with the graphics and they most definitely add to the game's value.
Sound/Music: 7/10
Licensed Songs are fun and sets this game very nicely. However, you may get tired and annoyed with the constant rap music and want to listen to something else. The sound is neat, from the flips of the snowboard to the crashing of the snow. This isn't one of those games where you'll want to turn the volume up very high, I'm afraid. It's bearable, so try living with it, it's not too bad when you listen to it for a little bit.
Controls: 6/10
The controls are average in this game, neither well developed, nor rushed. You'll use most of the buttons for tricks and for maneuvering your snowboard to go where you want it to go. It's not very easy to catch on, but once you do, it'll be fine.
Gameplay: 6/10
The gameplay isn't superb. The problem is that there isn't enough modes and difficulty for you to have a challenge. It's also repetitive. Nothing in the game should take you more than two tries to beat, even on the hardest modes. Too easy, Nintendo, better luck next time.
Scores:
Graphics: 8/10
Sound/Music: 7/10
Controls: 6/10
Gameplay: 6/10
Difficulty: Way Below Average
Replay: Below Average
Fun Factor: A soupcon above average
Final: 6/10
1080 Avalanche isn't a very good game in terms of snowboarding games, nor regular games. It's above mediocrity, but not that much. Stick with a rental if you feel the urge to play it. Trust me.
