Medal of Honor: European Assault
Review by KVBtheAlbino
"The best MoH game ever!"
Medal of Honor: European Assault follows the story of a young American soldier in WW2. His journey takes you from a port in France, to north Africa, Russia and the Battle of the Bulge. This game is, in my opinion, one of the best WW2 era games out there today, not only because of the compelling missions, but the sparkling gameplay as well.
Gameplay-8
Like it says in the tagline, this is the best Medal of Honor game ever and the gameplay is why. In the previous MoH games, you could run into a crowd of enemies and escape with little damage. In European Assault, this clever tactic is the quickest way to die.
A new system of ducking and leaning has been put in the game, as well as a huge emphasis on cover. Using a combination of cover and leaning will be the way you spend most of the game.
I really like the way this system works. It provides a whole new element of strategy that other FPS have missed. Along with having teammates that you can command around vast open battlefields, there are now many options of how to go about completing your objectives.
As for objectives at the go the system is good. It starts you with one main objective and as the battle progresses extra objectives are added. There are also bounty-type objectives, where you must kill a specific high ranking officer, and information retrieval objectives.
I would have given gamplay a ten, however the multiplayer brings it down to an eight. First of all there is no online play (at least for the GC), you don't have the option of using computer players and there is no co-op mode. I do give it credit because the multiplayer maps are nice, but are empty unless you can get four people together.
Graphics-8
The graphics are good, but not great. There is nothing in European Assault that you haven't seen anywhere else before. I do like how the terrain changes as things such as explosions (which look the best out of all the MoH games) occur.
Environments are filled with boxes, various machinery, buildings, trees, and trenches which are not only good for cover, but also give a more realistic and full experience to the game.
Sound-7
Bang bang, boom boom, AAAAHHH! Its all just that, not to say its not done well. Voices in battle and briefings are done well, but its pretty much expected nowadays.
I know that there is a musical score at the main menu, but I had to go back and check because its so forgettable. But, again this is my opinion, music can be forgiven because its not used often and it is outshone by the gameplay.
Replay-9
With the variety of objectives in one mission, the difficulty that it is to get them all at once and the fun gameplay, there is definitely reason to go through a mission two or three more times.
The game is also fairly difficult even on normal mode, so after you master that, the opportunities and challenges offered by more difficult modes are too good too pass up.
Overall-8
This game is definitely worth your 40 bucks if you are even just a mild fan of FPS. However, don't plan on playing this game with your buddies too much. But if your looking for one heck of a good FPS, Medal of Honor: European Assault is for you.
