Resident Evil 2

"Resident Evil 2---Ol' School Fun"
Introduction:
I guess you could call me a ol' school gamer. I've played nearly all of the survival horror game out there. The Resident Evil series in my opinion is the best of them. Silent hill comes in second, minus the fourth installment. For veterans or newbies to the survival horror genre will appreciate the legacy of Resident Evil. Please keep in mind that I am rating this for the Game Cube.
Game play-9
In keeping with the original Resident Evil style, Resident Evil 2 does well. You have horror, dark humor, and of course a great deal blood shed. The characters are somewhat difficult to move but this is because of the control style that is present with the original Resident Evils. Personally I do not think that this hinders game play over much, it's just something a player needs to adapt to. I also like the fact that they added to characters to play as and that what you do with one character can effect the other character's game play.
Story: 10
Resident Evil 2 does an excellent job with the story. Each character is well rounded and come across as a 3D person. As the player progresses through the game more Resident Evil facts come to light. By the end of the game the player will have a full grip of what this chapter of the Resident Evil saga is about.
Sound and Graphics: 5
This is a direct port from the late 90's. The graphics are still a little bit blocky but the FMV's are still great. Sound is good, but cannot be compared to this generation of games. Capcom could have polished this game over a little before releasing it but they did not and we as the players have no choice but to deal with it.
Re-playability: 10
You can play this game forever before you run out of stuff to unlock. Then even after you've unlocked everything the game is still fun to play, especially with the new toys you acquire. It will take time to truly beat this game. Also there is the mercenaries mode which would keep anyone busy for a while.
Rent or Buy:
Buy-if you can find it. Locally I haven't found a store yet that rents this game out, but I live in Wisconsin so go figure. Aside from that renting would get really expensive if you wanted to truly beat the game, buying it would be your most economical choice.
Final Thoughts:
This chapter of Resident Evil is crucial towards the entire Resident Evil story. This game is a must have for any Resident Evil fan. I also find it necessary to remind you the reader that even though this game does feature Leon Kennedy it does not play as Resident Evil 4. That is a new format to the Resident Evil series. Another point that I would like to add is that you can buy the books based of the game for around six dollars. These books give you more perspective and knowledge of the characters involved in the games. With that I end this review. Happy gaming.
