Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Review by lou dog

"You have once again entered the world of survival horror. Good luck..."

You have once again entered the world of Survival Horror.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis picks up where RE1 and RE2 left off. You play as Jill Valentine and you fight your way through hordes of zombies in Raccoon City, the City of The Dead. But this time you have the Nemesis to worry about. Although Resident Evil Remake for the Gamecube is my all time favorite RE game, RE3: Nemesis comes in second.

Graphics: 8/10
Average graphics. Not bad, not all good. Definitely a step up from Resident Evil 2, but definitely a step down from RE4. A lot sharper than the first two games, but with minor flaws. I think they upgraded the graphics when they put it on Gamecube.

Sound: 10/10
Resident Evil has always been known for good music and sound effects. The music in this is superb and the sound of zombies moaning off in the distance is awesome. Plus the never ending growl "stars" from the Nemesis doesnt get old. Good sound.

Gameplay: 10/10
Classic Resident Evil fun. Run around a vacant city and blast the crap outta zombies and cerberus and chimera. Not to mention, the big bad-ass of them all your Nemesis. There is anew system in RE3 where every time something big happens, you get to choose between two options that will effect the out come of certain events in the game.
You meet up with a few soldiers and they assist you here and there along the way. Carlos Oliveira, Nicholai, and Mikhail. There are new things you can do like the quick 180 degree turn and your ability to dodge and push zombies away from you. This game is very long compared to the first two Resident Evils. It goes through many stages. There's the beginning, the police station, the city, the clock tower, the graveyard, the dead factory, and the end. All areas are very long but quite fun. If you start a game on hard mode, your character is thrust into a horde of undead equipped with nothing but a pistol and a knife. If you start out on easy mode, Jill starts out with an Assault Rifle and an arsenal of weapons in the item chest. Good, fun, challenging gameplay.

Difficulty: 7/10
There are quite a few hard puzzles here and there. Its not very hard but it made me pissed for a while. The hardest puzzle comes toward the end where you have to add up a bunch of little bars on this machine. It sounds like nothing but it is a giant pain in the ass, believe me you won't enjoy it.

Fun Factor: 9/10
How can killing zombies ever not be fun? The game thrusts you into a world of horror, death, corruption and evil.

Overall: 9/10
A deserving score.

Rent or Buy?
If you loved RE1 and RE2 or any other Resident Evils, buy it. If you've never played Resident Evil in your life, buy it. But don't ever watch the two Resident Evil movies, unless you are a die hard fan, for they are both an insult to the Resident Evil franchise.
