"One of the best in the series."

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X is my second favorite in the series next to the remake of the original. It has all the good qualities of classic Resident Evil gameplay while managing to eliminate some of the bad. It's got more horror, and definitely more survival. Here's my review.

Graphics: 10/10
These graphics are such a large step up from the original three Resident Evils. They are crisp and clean and detailed. They aren't quite as realistic as Zero, and definitely not even close to Resident Evil 4. But still, they are extremely nice. The zombies are in fuller detail, and the blood from wounds looks a lot more like drips than squares this time around.

Control: 9/10
Everybody always complains that the Resident Evil games have horrible control. I think the control is perfect. It fits the horrifying atmosphere surrounding the entire game simply because it is awkward, yet nearly flawless by my opinion. The camera angles are sweet. The only problem I've ever had with it, is the doors are a loading screen. It gets annoying every once in a while, but it would not be the same without it. R=Aim, Z=Map, A=Action, B=Run, Y=Status Screen, D-pad and Thumbstick=Move, and C-Stick=Quick 180 degree turn.

Sound: 9/10
Resident Evil has always been known for really good sound effects and music. The moans from zombies and creatures are on the spot, the music is good when it needs to be, and the sound effects are spooky. The only problem I had with the sound is that the Resident Evil crew has never been good on casting good voice actors. They say really cheesy stuff, and just don't sound natural.

Gameplay: 10/10
Here is what really matters. Same old, same old good Resident Evil survival horror. The thing about the RE franchise that makes it so good ( minus Survivor, Outbreak and Dead Aim) is that it really is survival horror. Not Action. Not Shooter. Survival. You're supposed to have to limp around with a handgun with little or no ammo, solve puzzles, and dodge horrifying creatures. Which in this game, there is plenty of. There are definitely a few really hard puzzles in this game. And not to mention a certain boss fight on a certain airplane that is really hard. There's nothing more to say about the gameplay other than it's just like the other three Resident Evils, except with better graphics, and a more fun environment for an enhanced playing experience. The whole game just has an eerie atmosphere.

Story: 10/10
Same old Umbrella Corporation conducting evil experiments with viruses and turning thousands of people into bloodthirsty beasts and zombies. This time around you play as Claire, continuing her search for her brother Chris.

Difficulty: 8/10

Replay Value: 6/10

Buy or Rent?
Buy. Period. Except if your not too good on horror.
