Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects
Review by Rcsaints
"A fun, satisfying and severly underrated game!"
A fun, satisfying and severely underrated game. Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is a enjoyable game that can be frustrating at times. People misjudge this game, but I still can't figure out why. Here's what I think of Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects for Nintendo Gamecube.
Gameplay 8/10
Marvel Nemesis is a fighting, beat-em up style action game that features 10 of your favorite Marvel characters and 10 new evil villains. Marvel Characters range from Spider-man to Wolverine to The Thing to Iron Man. The new villains known as the Imperfects range from a teleporting, fast-on-her-feet "The Wink" to an electricity-immune madman named Johnny Ohm. The game progresses as the Marvel characters try to save their planet from the Imperfects controlled by Dr. Roekel. Each Marvel characters has an assortment of 4-6 missions that include 1-2 boss battles that explain the imperfect's past. After beating missions with the Marvel characters you unlock comic books, cards, and new versus characters. The game's combo system isn't really deep but it doesn't need to be amidst of everything. Some of the camera angles and controls don't seem right but it's nothing to worry about. The game is only 4-5 hours depending on if you want to collect all 40 cards and all 18 comics, which can take up to 8 hours.
Graphics 7/10
Marvel Nemesis's graphics aren't bad even though people claim them to be. The explosions are kinda cheesy but the character models are A+. The physics engine is what hurts the graphics, one small punch sometimes sends enemies across the field and you can fall off the edge seeming meanlessly. The cutscenes offer good animation and portray the characters pretty good. As in most games the graphics don't bother you when you're pounding alien invaders and The Imperfects(or sometimes Marvel characters from The Imperfects point of view)
Sound and Story 9/10
The sound definitely doesn't hurt the game, the character's voices are great although the starting and finishing lines are downright horrible. (Spider-man says "That's what we call a web-slinging *** kicking) The story line is nothing deep but is more than what people claim after playing only the first three missions. Basically The Imperfects are on Earth trying to find Paragon(an elite warrior) and have to go through the Marvel characters to do so, the message The Imperfects are portraying is unclear until the end of the game.
Value 6/10
The game is fun while it lasts on the Gamecube since the lack of online play hurts the replay value. As said above the game is 4-8 hours long depending on if you want to collect all of the unlockables. Sad to say this game is not worth buying, but it's definitely worth a rental.
So as my final statement I say this game is one of the best superhero games out there at the moment even if there's a lot of super hero games coming out at this time of year. I would suggest all Marvel fans, fighting game fans, and beat 'em up game fans to rent this game and buy it if you have a lot of people to play versus with. I enjoyed Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects for the Nintendo Gamecube and hope you do too.
