Midway Arcade Treasures 3
Review by ryanm32
"Does the Gamecube version lack quality, in which the other versions contain?"
Midway Arcade Treasures is a series in which we can all find a special place on our shelf for. Of course, all the games on every disc are not all "treasures," but the majority of them or exceptional enough to create a few fun playthroughs. treasures 3, clearly, has the most graphically superior titles and the most in longevity. And that is why there is only eight on this game, and only one worth the twenty dollar price tag.
Rush 2049 is the main appeal to this disc. Hours and hours alone can be emptied into this single game. This game does not lag as bad as someone who has not played this version yet may claim. When playing multiplayer, a great appeal in itself, the game does stall a bit, but nothing entirely detrimental to the experience known as Rush. The graphics are still exceptable, when compared to other games in the previous entrees and other older titles to grace our consoles. But with all the games on this disc, Rush is by far the most superior, and quite possibly one of the best racers to come around in the past few years, justifying, alone, the twenty dollar price tag.
There are a few, seven to be exact, other games on Treasures 3. None of them being equally as good as Rush, and Alcatrez Rush, The "expansion" of Rush 2049. But other worthy mentions are Off Road Thunder and Super Off Road, both entertaining and enjoyable truck racers. Race Drivin appeals to a specific racing fan, because it is the closest thing on this disc to a simulation racer. The controls and graphics are awful, but we do not play any of these games for excellent graphics.
Though most of these games are mediocre at best, the game is cheap enough and nostalgic enough to please some fans. But the most interesting and controversial aspect of Midway and their developing of this game, is the idea that they put less effort into the Gamecube version. This is not true at all, and by playing the Playstation 2 version as well, I am complimented to say that no game has any form of excessive lag.
Midway Arcade Treasures 3 is an enjoyable nostalgia-drowned game, where a hardcore racing fan can find bliss. Personally, I enjoyed these games, but found a mixture, like the previous two treasures games, more appealing and interesting. Why Midway decided on placing all of one genre in a compilation disc type of game, known to be varied in gameplay types, is an odd action to commit. But the games are fitting enough, and nearly all of them deserved this resurrection.
Avoid some and play to death others, and that is exactly what is expected from a compilation title of this sort.
