Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
Review by Quakezero
"There's a war going on"
Call of duty 2 BRO is a game that is definitely intriguing, but at the same time, has its own faults that bring it down. You find yourself loving the beginning and then wondering when on earth this thing will end.
Game play: 6/10
The classic call of duty weapons and the classic call of duty game play. All the same controls so fans will feel right at home. The rag doll physics are very properly used and are a wonderful addition. The game is quite addicting and the intense action keeps it alive. You must work with your squad mates to survive. Speaking of squad mates, BRO has one of the best team AI s ever. Never has my team been so helpful and actually helping me out. Instead of staring at walls they are shooting down Germans. Now for the bad news. The mounted turret is horribly repetitive. I kept on thinking "oh god, ANOTHER turret." I also had a problem with the difficulties. If you play it on normal or hard, you get the full challenge and experience. If you play it on easy, you get the dull, ignorant AI, and your health acts as if you are god. On easy, I rushed into a mounted turret, mel eed the gunner to death, and single handedly took on a platoon of Germans with a M1 Grand rifle (one shot every couple seconds people), and still had over half my health. Finally, the game makes you feel suffocated at some points. If you get too far from your squad, you go "AWOL". If your squad mate makes a wrong turn and jumps in your line of fire while you've still got your machine gun blaring, you nail him in the back of the head, and you lose the game for friendly fire. And the short plane interlude was dreadfully boring. So you have classic call of duty with classic call of duty frustration.
Sound: 9/10
Absolutely beautiful. Never have weapons and grenades been brought to life like this before. Beautiful is all I have to say. Next.
Plot: 10/10
The only real reason to get this game. The plot. Instead of thrusting you from platoon to platoon, you stay with the same American squad throughout the game. I felt so attached to me squad, that when one of the members died, I got so angry that an adrenaline rush forced me out into fire and got me killed. Thats how pissed I was. You feel like this is your virtual family and you take care of each other. *teardrop*
Graphics: 7/10
Some people say that this is the best looking WWII shooter ever on current gen consoles. LIE. Thats the Xbox 360 version. The character models are pretty fantastic people. (Hey this is game cube we're talking about). But the environments are nothing spectacular, They are quite bland. Though the smoke and grenade/fire affects kick it to the curb.
Call of Duty BRO is a bad game, it just didn't really improve (besides graphics) from the others. It just has a better story. If you are a hardcore fan, I would still rent it (I love call of duty and i still rented this one). If you really don't like the series that much, play the original Call of Duty 2 on PC and Xbox-360. Besides story, they are way better.
