"A must-have anthology of the MegaMan X series..."

Although this game is far from perfect, I must say I was very impressed. At first glance, I did not notice this game's sneaky arrival until checking new Gamecube releases. Of course, I was shocked to see the unthinkable: "Mega Man X Collection". I was intrigued, and started to investigate. What I found was extremely shocking to me: 6 of the Mega Man X series games, plus another unlockable.

I was never a fan of the newer two Mega Man X games (MMX7 and MMX8), due to the fact they had strayed from their predecessor's roots. The collection features the first six games of the series: Mega Man X to Mega Man X6. These are the games I grew up playing: simple side-scrolling action and fun. There is also an unlockable secret game, which I will leave for you to try, due to the fact I have not unlocked it myself just yet.

So as I walked to the local games store, I was discouraged to see they were just restocking, and I didn't see the game available on the shelf. Right as I was about to leave, a teenager a little older than me noticed something in the cardboard box. "Hey, is that the new MegaMan game?". Instantly, I went up to the shopkeeper and asked politely, "Hey, I'll take one copy of the new Mega Man X Collection", hoping that this would cure my hunger for the classic X series.

The game play is exactly the same, except with a few strange transformations. As this game is on the Gamecube (but is also available on the Playstation 2), the controls are iffy. As you can tell, the standard Gamecube controllers have a wonky layout, which sometimes leads to the original controls for the Collection to be strangely foreign.

The sound is average, although some minor details have been neglected. Some of the level music in the games do not loop correctly, and start from the very beginning of the version of the song, leaving a small pause between the end and the beginning.

There is a lot of playback value in this collection, and although some of the things Capcom promised are not featured in this game, this game is still a must-own for every die-hard fan of the Maverick Hunter, Mega Man X.
