Vexx
Review by Moosedude606
"Bored? Try Vexx"
Vexx could have been a truly great platformer, it has all the great elements such as an interesting fighting style, intriguing character background, and some fast-paced music. The main problems though are the fact that there are only two power-ups throughout the whole game and Vexx learns no new moves. Granted when Vexx came out it was the best platformer/adventure game out there, but now I would only recommend buying it because it is only ten dollars at your local blockbuster. Here is my run-through review of Vexx.
Controls 9/10
I give the controls a nine because of their ingenious simplicity. Analog stick to run, B and L to attack, and A to jump. However Z, X, and Y are completely wasted. Z does nothing, and X and Y just help with the camera controls, this is why Vexx doesn't get the ten for controls
Fighting 1/10
The only reason Vexx gets any points in this category, is because his attacks look so cool, that being said lets move on to the negatives. VEXX ONLY HAS TWO ******* POWERUPS! That is what separates Vexx from great platformers like Donkey Kong 64. This also goes along with my point about how Vexx needs some new moves. He gets all of his moves at the beginning and he never even gets a new weapon. Therefore this fighting system is horribly ruined :( .
Soundtrack 7/10
Nice, but nothing groundbreaking.
Graphics 8/10
The graphics really moved me for this game at the time this game was created I think it had the best graphics out there. But alas, times change and Vexx gets pushed into the background with hundreds of other mediocre titles.
Storyline 3/10
Some evil dude takes over your world and kills somebody you love, and in order to get revenge you must collect 3,000 little things (hearts, stars, bananas) over several worlds. Sound familiar? Then chances are you, at some time in your life have played a platformer. They are all the same and Vexx is no exception, somebody come up with something new, please.
Gameplay 5/10
Gameplay was really tedious and if you lost a life you would have to start all the way over, have you ever heard of a checkpoint?
Side note: The bosses in this game are truly boring, but what can you do if you only have 7 moves and one weapon?
9+1+7+8+3+5 = 32
32/6 = 5.3 final score
On a closing note Vexx seemed like a truly promising game if they would have added extra powerups, moves, weapons, etc. I would only recommend buying it if you're bored, patient, and have ten bucks to blow.
