 Buffness
 --------

When you reach a certain amount of points in a chapter, your character
will "buff up" and have his killing capacity enhanced. While in this
state, his defense value is 50 + 1/2 Wimpy Defense.

The starting values for the hero's stats are:
 Life : 64
 Power : 0
 Def : 0

 Chapter 1: New Legend Creators
 ------------------------------

 MAX POWER: 72

 Recommended Level Order: 1 3 4 3 5 3 2 8 7 6 9

 1. Western Area

Here you'll be introduced to the basic glut of enemies you'll
be seeing through nearly the entire game. Knock away thrown
knives and axes with any attack, take care of the peons with
    standing punches.

   END STAGE

Max: I wanted you to meet Alyssa!
Aarzak: Now you have the look of a hero!

 2. The Wilderness

Same as stage 1.1. Note that there are standing spear users
here. If you're buff, you can jump kick them. If not, you WILL
get damage if you try to fight them. Walking away until they're
off the screen will make them magically disappear, though.

   END STAGE

    Alyssa: Aarzak! Save the world!
Aarzak: I am the only one who can save this world!
    Aarzak: Strength has increased!

    (Max Life +16)

 3. Hulk's Area

   BOSS STAGE

To take down the Hulkster, simply hit him before he hits you.
When he rapidly moves backward, it means he's about to do a flying
    punch thingy. Duck it.

After his defeat, you'll recover some life.

 4. Prison Entrance

    See stage 1.1

   END STAGE

    Aarzak: What's the matter!
Gere: I want to become a hero.

    (Path to stage 5 opens)

 5. Quiet Village

Luisa: Finally the enemy has begun to move!
Aarzak: At last, the time has come!
    Aarzak: Defensive power is increased!

    (Def + 10)

 6. Rebel's Prison

Oh joy, a labyrinth! What fun...

This is the place to go if you need to restore some life,
otherwise you might want to avoid it. To move faster, use the
"duck jumping" technique that only works in the four labyrinths.

Press up in the doorways and you'll be taken into a room where you
get to fight peons. You'll recover some life for each one you defeat.

A path through: Go right. Fall down the hole. Go right. Jump up
the boxes. Go right. Fall down the hole. Go left. Fall down the hole.
Go right. Fall down the hole (whee!). Go left. Go up the second box.
Go left. Jump over the first hole and fall into the second (you'll
need to use the press down jump to get across). Go left.

   END STAGE

    Zee-Bee: I can't believe you're here! Save me!
Aarzak: I want you to help me.
    Aarzak: Strength has returned!

    (Recover life)

 7. Southern Area

    See stage 1.1

 8. Butcher's Area

   BOSS STAGE

This short alien thing throws small spheres at you. When you
get too close, he'll spit a glob of floating green stuff at you.
Avoid his attacks and hit him.

You'll recover some life after his defeat.

 9. Eternal Plain

   CHAPTER BOSS STAGE

    This guy has three attacks:
    1. When his arm glows and makes a sound, he'll throw a ball of
energy at you, which you'll want to jump over.
    2. When his arm glows and doesn't make a sound, he'll throw out a
short range wall of severely damaging energy, which you'll want
       to run away from.
    3. He'll throw punches at you, which you won't easily dodge.

Punches do well here. When his life is nearly gone, you'll have to
finish him off with a standing punch.

   END STAGE

Syd: For Duke I will fight to the end!
Aarzak: What kind of being is duke?

fly from either side of the screen, and that he does not do the
    "superman" attack.

 2. Second Gate

    See stage 1.1

 3. Third Gate

    See stage 1.1

Note: There are some guys on motorcycles that appear here. If you
duck and hit them at the right time, the motorcycles will
          explode.

 4. Quiet Village

Anne: Take revenge on behalf of my father!
Aarzak: Gear's death was not in vain!
    Aarzak: Strength has increased!

    (Max Life +16)

 5. Fourth Gate

   CHAPTER BOSS STAGE

He punches white energy spheres at you. Get close to him and do
a jump kick. Timed correctly, you can get two hits in one. Repeat
as necessary. Finish him off with a standing punch.

   END STAGE

Duke: Why? You saved my life!
Aarzak: This is not yet the time for you to die!
    Aarzak: Defensive power is increased!

    (Def +10)

 6. Forbidden City

Path through: Go right. Fall down the hole. Go left. Fall down
the hole. Go left. Fall down the hole. Go right. Jump up the

Fall down the hole. Go right.

   END STAGE

Sophia: Why was only Alyssa carried away?
Aarzak: As long as I am here, Alyssa will not die!
    Aarzak: Strength has returned!

 7. Seashore

A bunch of harpoons are thrown at you as you walk through this
stage. Avoiding them is a good thing.

 1. Pirate Ship 1

See stage 1.1, simply replace the words "thrown" "knives" and "axes"
    with "shot" "harpoons" and "missiles."

   BOSS

Hit him into the corner, and repeatedly punch him. Easy!

   END STAGE

Aarzak: Take me to land on the other side of the sea.
Dare-Devil: I will risk everything for you!

 2. Pirate Ship 2

See stage 3.1, minus the boss.

 3. Savage Land 1

You get to meet new enemies! Block their projectiles with kicks.

 4. Savage Land 2

See stage 3.3, minus the word "new"

 5. Eternal Plain

    See stage 3.4

   END STAGE

Duke: I am sorry, I couldn't save Alyssa!
Aarzak: Duke! What a hero you are!
    Aarzak: Strength has increased!

    (Max Life +16)

 6. Dry River Bed

    BOSS STAGE

This is the hardest boss in the game; I heartily recommend
    not fighting him.

He does an annoying punch attack, which is hard to dodge (i.e.,
impossible). He creates mirror images of himself, which can hurt
you. The best way to defeat him is by luck.

If you win, you'll recover some life (woo-hoo).

 7. Western Village

    See stage 3.4

   END STAGE

Cynara: There is no mistake. He is heading to Gromm.
Aarzak: I'll hurry back to Gromm!
    Aarzak: Defensive power is increased!

    (Def +10)

 8. Desert

See stage 3.4 (note the misspelled stage name)

 9. The Gromm Castle

Go up any boxes you see. When you have a choice of which direction
to walk, go left. You should eventually find yourself in
a long empty room, with pebbles falling from the ceiling. Walk to
the right and jump over the holes you meet. You'll then meet up
    with the boss.

   CHAPTER BOSS

Gromm does jump kicks and throws punches. When he jumps into the
air and fire comes out of his hands, move away from where you're
standing; fire forms at your feet. Jump kicks work well. Remember
to finish him off with that standing punch!

   END STAGE

    Gromm: Hell is ahead!
Aarzak: What sort of place is hell?
    Aarzak: Strength has returned!

 1. Valley of No Return

Some guys with switch-blades for arms run around here. Some of
them come right out of ground, for some reason... Those wily
    jumpy-men are here as well.

 2. Castle Entrance

Some guys with scythes for arms have stacked themselves totem pole
style, for some reason... Even more jumpy man fun can begotten
    here as well.

 3. Great Coliseum

Guys with boomerangs appear. Birds and jumpy men kick it here as
    well.

 4. The Garokk Castle

Garokk: Without breaking the seal, I'm invincible.
    Aarzak: A seal?!
    Aarzak: Strength has increased!
    (Max. life +16)

 5. Eternal Plain

Easy stage. Some guys with flame-throwers try to kill you.
    Jumpy guys abound.

 6. The Village

    See stage 3.4

   END STAGE

Rob: There is a secret in the west mausoleum!
Aarzak: You can now solve the secret of the seal!

 7. East Mausoleum

   BOSS STAGE

You have to go to the Garokk castle before this boss appears.

This guy has a "black wave" attack that'll knock you around. It
doesn't cause damage, but you can't dodge it. He also has this
nasty attack where he flies at you and punches really fast, which
really hurts. Not TOO tough... Finish him with a standing punch.

   END STAGE

    Gross: My memory has returned!
    Aarzak: My brother!!
    Aarzak: Defensive power is increased!

    (Def +10)

 8. West Mausoleum

    the hole. Go right.

   END STAGE

    Cynara: Fight with Garokk twice!
    Aarzak: ????

 10. Tombstone

    CHAPTER BOSS STAGE

This guy fights very much like Gross. (See stage 4.7)

    END STAGE

Garokk: This is the place where I die!
     Garokk: Farewell! Aarzak!

 Background

 Story
 -----

 (As ripped from the manual)

All is not well with the world! A great war had devastated the
land and a nefarious power had established an empire where the good
 people were treated like slaves.

But there was hope. The mighty Aarzak and his two companions,
Alyssa and Max, banded together to reclaim their homeland.

Using the secret martial art of Jet-Kwon-Do, Aarzak went to battle
against the Duke, master of Tae-Kung-Fu. In the end Aarzak was
victorious and peace reigned in the land. However, before the battle
was over, Gromm, Gross and Garokk, the three strongest and most evil
warriors escaped. For 3 years the trio plotted to get back in power.

One day, they staged a surprise attack on the capital city. Alyssa
was captured and taken to the land of the unknown. Aarzak followed
the trail of Alyssa's captors to the ultimate savage land, where he
prepared to fight the 3 seemingly invincible foes.

After a fierce battle, Aarzak was able to defeat Gromm. However,
in the midst of the fight Alyssa was taken by her captors to another
 location.

In his quest to find Alyssa, Aarzak met his brother Gross. Some time
ago Gross lost his memory and as a result he turned to a life of
violence. To save Alyssa, Aarzak was forced to fight his brother.
Luckily good triumphed over evil and Aarzak was able to restore
 Gross' memory.

However, there was one last battle yet to be fought. Garokk, the most
powerful enemy had to be defeated. There is a secret to defeating
Garokk which is contained in the sealed legacy of the creator of
Jet-Kwon-Do. After much thought, Aarzak was able to break the seal
and learn how to defeat Garokk. Even with this knowledge, the
fighting continued for days. Yet in the end Aarzak prevailed and Alyssa
 was rescued.

And so goes the legend of Aarzak, the last hero!

G'ah... This thing was started on 9/25/1999 and finished a day later,
which is an excellent display of the seriousness of compulsive
 disorders.

If you enjoyed this game's story (which made no sense whatsoever), you
are well advised to check out "Fist of the North Star." Last Battle
ripped off that series quite well.
