HISTORY OF THIS GUIDE VERSION 1.00 03/11/02: Started working on this guide. Many more updates to come! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2. GENERAL CONTROLS & RULES SYNOPSIS Head-On Soccer is more of an action oriented game than a true soccer simulation, although it does contain some standard rules of soccer, such as fouls, penalty kicks, etc. There are no substitutions at any time, meaning that the players never get tired or injured, but they can get kicked out. CONTROLS Offense A: Pass B: Shoot C: Dodge Tackle (This is what one version did anyway, I may be mistaken.) Defense A: Sliding Tackle B: Kick C: Change Player SWITCHES Since the switches in the options menu are given rather bizarre names, here is an effort to explain what they mean. REPLAYS: When a goal is scored, you have the option of viewing the goal again with VCR-like options, including the ability to slow it down, rewind, fast forward, etc. (The buttons are listed on screen as to what each one does, although I haven't had time to work with the replays enough to post them in this document. Maybe in a future version.) CAMEO: When a goal is scored or a card is pulled after a foul, a short scene will be shown with the players celebrating or getting angry at the results. This can be a bit of a nuisance at times if you just want to get back to your game, so turning it off will make things flow a little smoother. AGGRO: With Aggro turned on, the gameplay is more action oriented, meaning that you'll be able to kick, tackle, and do other stuff to players with little chance of getting a foul called. With Aggro turned off, these changes take place: -You can't knock an opponent down while shooting or going in for a header. -Unnecessary roughness, such as repeated kicking of a player or tackling a player who doesn't have the ball, will warrant a card. In addition, the referees will call fouls more frequently. RULES OF HEAD-ON SOCCER -Each goal equals one point. (I'm sure you knew that, so sue me!) -If a player knocks the ball out of play across the sideline, the other team will receive a throw-in. -If a defender knocks the ball out of play over their own goal line, the other team will receive a corner kick. If an attacker kicks the ball over the defense's goal line, the defenders will receive a goal kick. -While it's natural at times for soccer to be a contact sport, if the referees see gameplay getting a little too physical or unnecessary contact can result in a free kick. If a defender commits a foul in their own penalty box, a penalty kick will be awarded to the attacking team. -If a player commits a flagrant foul, he will be shown a yellow card. At this point, a yellow card will appear above him when he is being controlled by either player or the computer. If a player commits another flagrant foul after receiving a yellow card, the referee will show a red card, thus removing him from play. In addition, his team will be forced to play one man short for the remainder of the match. -AFAIK, there are no offsides in the game. (I may be wrong, but I haven't seen it yet.) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3. STRATEGIES FOR THE GAME (This section is still in the _VERY_ early stages of development, so expect many more updates as this guide gets updated!) OFFENSE -The best way to move the ball around and avoid having it stolen is to make good use of your passes. Passing the ball downfield (Button A) is a great way to get it past defenders and into a scoring position. -When you are going in for a shot, try using the pass instead of the shot to fake out the goalie. A lot of times, he'll try to jump for the shot and end up watching as it rolls underneath him! DEFENSE -When chasing an opponent with the ball, using a sliding tackle is a great way to strip him of the ball (not to mention it's neat seeing him fall facefirst into the pitch!) The referees are slightly more lenient (whether aggro is on or not doesn't make a difference I believe) when it comes to sliding tackles. -Try to refrain from kicking opponents as much as you can. Use them sparingly, as referees generally frown upon such actions. -The referees also tend to frown upon tackling or kicking attackers who aren't in posession of the ball. So be careful when you tackle or kick. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 4. CONTACT INFORMATION READ THIS BEFORE YOU SEND ME ANY E-MAIL!
