I dedicate this to my old buddy John Unsworth. You introduced me to this
gem of a game, and I owe you one buddy. I wish you well now that you are
finished your schooling, and I will see you around buddy.

Also, for Cougar. I miss you, and I hope you are living it up in the
afterlife as you did in this world. You will always be in my memories, and
you will never be forgotten.

Also, In memory of Howler and Koonce. You two never had a good start in
your lives, but you had a good time when you spent your time at my house.
It was oh so unfortunate that you both had your already tragic lives cut
short, but I can only hope that I helped make your life a more enjoyable
experience. You too will be missed, but not forgotten.

-----------------------------------Introduction-----------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) In this game you are the Paperboy (or Papergirl), and your job is to
deliver the daily news on each day for one week. Sounds pretty easy,
right? Well these streets are no ordinary urban jungle my friends. You
need not only an accurate throwing arm, but you need to have eyes like a
hawk, reflexes of a viper, and the intelligence that only a pre-teen can
truly possess. For you see, this neighbourhood has people, supernatural
occurrences, animals, inanimate objects, and others all out to stop you
from delivering papers, and from completing your job. What if you fail
at your job? Well, take a paper for the road, because you will need the
classifieds to find another source of income for yourself. If you take
the challenge of this job, remember to try to improve life on your
delivery route (all through the power of paper throwing), and you may
make the headlines yourself for something good!

---------------------------Subscriber/Non-Subscriber------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

3) This section will review all of the necessary information regarding the
two types of houses on your streets: Subscribers, and Non-Subscribers.

                          o--------------------------o
                          | Head-To-Head Differences |
                          o--------------------------o

1 Paint Jobs - Subscribers have a brightly coloured lay-out, while the
  Non-Subscribers use a dark coloured lay-out.

2 Windows - Breaking Subscribers windows will cause a cancellation of
services from you, Non-Subscribers windows getting busted will give you a
point bonus (see Points Section for exact details).

3 Delivery - Subscribers have two places you can deliver to: the mailbox and
the door. Non-Subscribers do not want your papers of course.

4 Yards - Subscribers yards will usually be clean cut, and relatively free
of obstacles. Non-Subscribers will often have cluttered yards, as well as
  bobby traps to thwart you.

                                o-------------o
                                | House Types |
                                o-------------o

                            ======================
                            Subscriber House Types
                            ======================

1 Hedge House - This house has a garage with a B-Ball net on it, and there
will often be two children playing basketball themselves. The hedge can
keep you far from the mailbox, but there are a series if jumps you can use
to get closer, and thus make your delivery job that much easier.

2 Old Folk's Place - This is the house of a retired couple who have built
themselves a nice place to live. They have a garden (with a Scarecrow to
guard them), a wheelchair accessible front door, a porch swing, and a jump
to clear their hedge at the edge of their property. The mail box comes
before the front door, and you can only deliver to their mailbox, so make
sure to come in close to deliver for an easy hit.

3 Reverse "L" House - Going to close to hit their mailbox/door can result in
a crash into the side of their house quite easily, so practice up your
long range aim. Lots of windows too, so if they unsubscribe, you can
garner a lot of bonus points.

4 Dual Staircase House - This is a very nice looking place that has a mailbox
early on, but if you throw after the first stairs, you will break one of
their many windows. You can go for the door, but that too risks windows.
You need to be careful delivering to this house, so be sure to move in
nice and close when doing so. If they unsubscribe, you do have the
advantage of many windows to break.

5 "E" House - These guys have a roof that looks like a slanted "E", and they
have a pretty simple house design. No real front yard, their mailbox and
door are easy to get to, so you have an easy house delivery here! There
are a few windows, so be wary when you are delivering.

6 Picket Fence House - These guys are living large, and they want the whole
world to know it! They are Bar-B-Q-ing a suckling pig, they have a huge
deck, and they have more than a few panes of glass installed in their home.
The mailbox and door are easily accessed however, so delivery is not too
tough at this address. They have a few windows to break if they
  unsubscribe from your great paper.

7 "T" House - These guys have one piece of the roof jutting out to the road,
so the name is the "T" House. Wide open yard area means you have a wide
open route to deliver easily to the mailbox/door. However, there is a
Monster Truck always hanging out in front of the place, so be quick to get
off the road when you see this place. They have plenty of windows, so be
careful delivering to them, but if you screw up and they unsubscribe,
there are lots of potential bonus point targets to destroy.

8 Split Level House - This is a real beauty of a house that has a huge
length. Cutting through their yard is chancy because of how narrow it is,
and the fact they have a guard dog. Your best bet is to try to throw from
just beyond the hedges to hit their mailbox or door. Window breaking
chances are slim for you if these people do unsubscribe.

9 Pool House - These guys have a very large house, plus they have an amazing
looking pool! You can get right in tight to their house, so it is an easy
delivery to their mailbox or door. Just be aware that a Skateboarder
sometimes hang out in front of the pool area, and he flies back and forth
at high speeds. Not a lot of windows to aim for if they unsubscribe, but
  there a few.

10Walled-In House - This house has a walled in yard, so it can be difficult
to get close for your delivery to the mailbox or door. Adding to the
danger of losing the subscriber are the lights on the wall (they are
breakable just like windows), so avoid hitting them. If you lose this
house as a subscriber, there are plenty of breakable targets.

11Limo House - This house is defined by the limo that is ALWAYS parked in
the driveway. There are a lot of windows, so be accurate when throwing at
the door or mailbox. If you lose these people as subscribers to your
employer’s outstanding publication, you have an incredible amount of
options for window breaking on the house, and you can even bust the limo
up for a little bit extra vandalism!

12Temple House - This place has statues in the fountain out front, and
pillars on the front of the house. These people are rich, and are not
afraid to flaunt it. Anyway, they have a path through the fountain, and
I suggest you use it for two reasons: 1) it gets you closer to their
mailbox and/or door, and 2) there is a Skateboarder out front at almost all
times. Not many windows to break here if they unsubscribe, but a trick to
get their attic window is to chuck to the right off of the first statue
  (it is a rebound shot).

13Mansion - This is a huge house, which has three separate pools bordering
the lawn. Jump the water, and go right in close for a super easy
delivery chance, and then jump out the other side. If they unsubscribe,
then bust up their many windows to show them what they are missing (not
to mention the many points you can get too).

14Window House - As you might have gathered from the name, this house is
just chalk full of windows. However, the path to the mailbox/door area is
mercifully unblocked, so go in right close, and deliver your paper. If
they do unsubscribe though, you will probably run out of papers before you
ever run out of windows to break here. ^_^

                              ====================
                              Non-Subscriber Types
                              ====================

1 Welfare House - Is surrounded by a rusty fence, it has trash sitting in
the yard. It also has a guard dog that attempts to get you should you
happen to try to cut through the yard on your route. Use the jump to exit
this fenced in junk heap. No real windows to break on this house.

2 Haunted House - This is a spooky looking domicile, and you can face a few
terrors from beyond the grave if you have the grave misfortune to entice
their interest. Ghosts and Zombies will both make an effort to get you,
so be ready to stop them with a well placed paper. No real windows to
  break on this house.

3 Gargoyle House - This house is thusly named for the two large protectors
that sit on its front steps (they are GARGOYLES). Along the way to
meeting these fire spewing monstrosities, you might notice all these fine
panes of glass they call windows; do not be afraid to bust a few of them
up to teach them for not subscribing to your fine newspaper (plus you get
  200 bonus points a shot ^_^).

4 Construction Site - Something is being built, but since it is incomplete,
you will not have anyone to deliver to. However, I am sure you are aware
that construction sites are great places to build great jumps, dig holes,
and of course hang out and chuck rocks at passers by. This game is no
exception to this rule either, as you face all of the previously listed
obstacles. There are no windows in yet (not far enough along on the
building of the site), so just try to avoid a needless death while driving
  by.

5 Welfare House II - These guys are obscenely obsessed with their vehicle,
and they seem to be always working on it. One will try to chase you away
from their house (he heard of your window breaking abilities no doubt) by
throwing tires at you. His buddy/brother will just keep working on the
truck. If you are low on papers, you will need to drive around the
littering of tires on the yard, and get it. There are numerable chances
to break numerable windows of the non-subscribing scum here.

6 Castle - This person took the saying "A mans house is his Castle" a little
too literally! He has dug a moat around his house, he has a drawbridge
(to keep out solicitors no doubt), and cannons (for the in-laws maybe?).
Unfortunately, you too can fall victim to his defenses as much as his
Mother-in-law, so be VERY careful getting by this house. You can use the
twice in a row jump set out front on the road to get by the worst sections
of this place, and I highly recommend using this route.

7 Haunted House II - This is more dangerous (and scarier) version of the
first Haunted House. It always has two Vultures hanging out (one above
the door, and one on a tombstone), and it also has a coffin (which will
sometimes have a mummy pop out). This is a house you best just avoid,
mainly because of the mean enemies there, and the fact there are little
  opportunities to bust windows.

8 Castle II - This guy has moved, and apparently he has upgraded his
defenses! He now has an outer wall, lined with cannons, and he has a
drawbridge built right into the inner wall! Just cross to the far side,
and avoid most of the concentrated firepower, and if one is going to get
you, throw a paper to stop the incoming cannonball of death. There are a
few windows, but it is not worth the risk to go after them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------Enemies--------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

4) This section will list all of the enemies that plague your attempts to
just do your duty as the paperboy. All opposition can be stopped with an
   accurately thrown newspaper.

Orange Car.........: Drives down the road. It tries to physically hit you to
take away from your stock of extra men. Often found
                     outside the Welfare House.

Brown Dog..........: A bulldog found in the fenced in yard of a Welfare
House. It will give chase when you drive through its
                     yard.

Gargoyle...........: Found on the steps of a Gargoyle House, these guys
shoot large fireballs in a straight line in an attempt
                     to hurt you.

Dalmatians.........: These dogs can be found in a variety of places,
including: chasing trucks at intersections, running
between houses, and near construction sites.

Cannons............: Found protecting the Castle House, they fire continual
                     vollies across the roadway.

Scarecrow..........: This opponent will only attack after you have attacked
it, so let it lie if you do not wish to be chased.

Basketball Players.: Playing on a driveway, very easy to dodge, yet so fun
to intentionally foul with a newspaper.

Skipping Triplets..: Usually found by Subscribers houses, they will block
the sidewalk making passage very hard to do.

Monster Truck......: The army-fatigue paint job is not enough warning to you
when this behemoth suddenly charges right at you.

Dog Catcher Truck..: Appears at intersections, it will try to run you down.

Sewer Monster......: If there is a sewer entrance/exit to be found, this
monster can get his arm out of it to try and rend your
                     flesh from your bones.

Sun Bather.........: Just avoid her, since she does not move at all.

BBQ Man & Pig......: Avoid the man since he does not move, and the Pig will
only attack you if you throw a paper at it to free it
                     first.

Rock Throwers......: Found around buildings under construction generally.
They throw there implements of hurt towards you, but
they can be stopped with a quick paper throw.

Tire Roller........: He throws a seemingly endless amount of tires down his
                     driveway, directly across your path.

Truck Fixer........: Only threatens you if you actually run into him. He
does not move, or even bother to look at you.

Ghost..............: Hangs out on front of Haunted House lawn. Will give
chase when passed by, and it will increase in
aggressiveness with each day passed in the week.

Zombie.............: Will occasionally appear earlier on the Haunted House
lawn than the Ghost, but it will charge in a straight
line to try to get you.

Vultures...........: These usually just perch on objects, and watch you fly
on by, but they sometimes will fight back by swooping
quickly to take you down. The harder the difficulty of
the street, the more likely they will do this, so be
ready to defend yourself with a well placed paper.

Couch Movers.......: These two seem very confused as to where they are
supposed to take this couch, so they will wander back
and forth around the sidewalk/roadside. This can be
extremely irritating in tight quarters, where they
                     unfortunately appear frequently.

Lawn Cutter........: This guy tries to run you down, and if you hit him with
a paper, his Mower will get away from him, and it can
also cut you down to size.

Car Fixer..........: Just minding his own business, fixing his car. You
should fix him with a paper thrown at the car! This
will cause him to comically kick his legs while he
futilely struggles to breathe! Take that self repair
                     guy!

Unicycle Clown.....: Hangs around the circus at the designated intersections
on Middle and Hard Street. He moves across the road,
back and forth quite briskly in an attempt to run you
down. Everybody DOESN'T love this clown!

Runaway Girl.......: A little girl in a pink outfit who is running
carelessly across the road. You should be a good
Samaritan, and send a paper off her head to smarten
                     her up.

Runaway Robber.....: He is more concerned about running directly away from
the police person chasing him, so just go by on the
side, and peg him with a paper for a nice 1,000 point
                     reward!

Skateboarder.......: This guy flies up and down a small section of the
sidewalk in an attempt to run you down. He tends to
hang out my houses that have water involved in their
                     yard designs.

Glass Delivery Guys: Carrying a pane of glass around on a street where a
Paperboy must kill or be killed will often lead to them
having a broken window on their hands, feet, clothes,
                     and even the ground.

Mummies............: Starts out in a coffin, and if he stays there, then you
will have no problems. However, if he comes out to
play, he will charge across the screen rapidly in an
attempt to get you. He can be very mean, and usually
comes out only when you drive right by him, so steer
                     clear of his home.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------Points--------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

5) This section will explain the scoring system of the game, and what points
you get for each successful action you commit.

You can get two types of points from your paper chucking exploits:
regular and bonus points. Regular adds into your score immediately, but
bonus adds to a score below the regular score, and it will be collected
when you enter the Obstacle Course at the end of the street. Even more
   points can be garnered there.

Regular Points will be listed first, Bonus Points second.

Player 1 will tour the left route, and Player 2 will tour the right
route. Player 1 will spend the first half of the route throwing at
houses on the right side, and the second half of the route throwing at
houses on the left side. Player 2 will spend the first half of the route
throwing at the left side, and the second half of the route throwing at
   the right side.

Both players will have the opportunity to stop a robber at the stores
during the middle section of the route. Approach the area slowly, and
be sure you can see one side of the street. If you do not see the Robber
(blue pants, black shirt), then slowly cut across the road to see if the
Robber is at the other store. Use a paper to the back of his head for
   a cool 1,000 points.

Runaway Baby Carriages only occur on the second half of Easy Street, and
they can be stopped for 1,000 points apiece.

Make sure to pick off as many targets as you can as you deliver your
papers to pad your score even further.

Once you complete the end of round bonus run, you will be shown the map
of Easy Street, and it will show your results. Any Subscribers Houses
you failed to deliver to will cancel their subscriptions (will flash from
white to black houses). If you had a perfect run, you will get a
Resubscriber (if you lost any Subscribers previously), or if you have all
ten of your Subscribers successfully delivered to, you will gain an extra
   man!

If you make it through the week, you will be awarded the password 5738,
which will give you access to your next route (your promotion). This

car sale, so stop him too. Intersection 2 has a girl running into the
street, and vandalism by a graffiti artist. Intersection 3 has your
chance to stop a robber on this route. You can get a cool 1,000 points
for each one of these incidents, and I recommend you attempt to do so.

Runaway Baby Carriages only occur on the sections of the street where you
deliver on the left side of the street. Each one you stop will also net
you a cool 1,000 points each!

Make sure to pick off as many targets as you can as you deliver your
papers to pad your score even further.

Once you complete the end of round bonus run, you will be shown the map
of Hard Street, and it will show your results. Any Subscribers Houses
you failed to deliver to will cancel their subscriptions (will flash from
white to black houses). If you had a perfect run, you will get a
Resubscriber (if you lost any Subscribers previously), or if you have all
ten of your Subscribers successfully delivered to, you will gain an extra
   man!

If you make it through the week, you will have defeated this oh so great
game, and I congratulate you for your fine efforts. You truly are a
legend among paper delivery people everywhere as the greatest paperboy or
   papergirl to ever live!

-----------------------------------Bonus Round------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

9) This section will review the Bonus Round that occurs at the end of every
route, every day. It will also give a few strategies so you will score
   higher than you would normally.

a) stick to a wall when going through the bonus area. This way you can have
the both "O" Targets, and the Steel Targets to aim for.

b) Remember that every time you hit a jump in the bonus round, you get ten
papers added to your total (provided you have nine or less in reserve).
This means you have an essentially unlimited papers to use, so do not be
conservative with your papers; just chuck like a mad man!

c) When you jump over the water, you will often have a Bull-Eye Target to
aim for. To hit these targets, just throw when you are in the air, and
   you will make automatic contact.

d) Another good tip for the Bulls-Eye Target is to throw multiple papers at
one time to get possible hits on the same target. This works best if you
jump more to the side, rather than straight off of a jump.

e) Go full speed for most of the course. This will allow you to reach the
end in the allotted time, and it also means you will have more targets to
   throw at.

f) Try to be as close to the targets as you can so you will have a better
   chance at hitting more targets.

This has been a fun game to play over the years, and when I saw it still
in the factory wrap for $15, I knew I had to get it. If you can get a
hold of this near-classic, I suggest you try your best to do so.
