I. General Information
----------------------

----------------
1.1 Game History
----------------
Released in 1992 by Virgin Games. There are also SNES and Sega Gamegear
Versions of this game. Which I'm led to believe are very similar to the Genesis
version, although I haven't played either of them.

--------------
1.2 Basic Plot
--------------
Based on the classic Terminator movie the game centers around controlling Kyle
Reese in his mission to find and protect Sarah Connor from the Terminator
which is set to kill her. There's only 5 levels which makes it a bit short.

------------
1.3 Gameplay
------------
One of my favourite Genesis games of all time, although it does have it's
damaging gameplay weaknesses it still comes off as an excellent game. It's
graphics are very detailed and the backgrounds add to the atmosphere. It's
style of graphics is very similar to that of Alien3 on the Genesis. The sound
is also very good too, it has some very memorable tunes and also done a great
job on the Terminator theme tune from the film.

-----------------
1.4 Modes of Play
-----------------
There are 4 Modes of Play, Easy Mode, Normal Mode, Hard Mode and Very Hard
Mode. The Easy Mode is the only Mode where you can get the Uzi-9mm.

------------
1.5 Controls
------------
Left/Right - Move left or right.
Up - Climb up ladders.
Down - Climb down ladders/Crouch
A - Plant timed explosives (Only used on first level).
B - Throw grenades and fire weapon.
C - Jump.

-------------------
1.6 Techniques and Tips
-------------------
* Crouch + Shoot Method -

When using the Shotgun used in the second level all the way upto the final
level it's best to use this method on shooting all enemies. Just pull down and
fire. Simply because it's a faster method of shooting, plus it minimizes the
chances of you taking hits.

* Don't let the enemy touch you -

This is a sure and fast way to losing energy. Don't let the enemy touch you at
all costs, your energy will decrease more or less instantly.

* Never cross an enemy on the stairs -

If you ever encounter an enemy on the stairs (and believe me you will) pull
back down the stairs and wait for them to get off so you can shoot them. If
you try and attack them on the stairs they'll just keep walking straight
into you and you'll pay for it in energy.

-----------------
1.7 Secrets and Codes
-----------------
* Image Cinema -

To see one of the images that come with the story line without the text just
hold UP just before you see the image. For as long as you hold UP the text
will stay away from the image.

* Secrets Menu -

Highlight the start game option. Hold the D-pad right. While holding d-pad
right, press b,c,b,b. the pointer should change into a square. Now press
start.

(Note: I've never been able to get this to work. The only reason that I put it
in here is that I have a suspicion that it does exist. I say this because in
the sound setup there are a lot of sound and audio tracks that you don't hear
at all within the game. I'm playing the US version of the game and can't get
this code to work, but if you can then mail me and let me know so I can confirm
this.)

----------------
1.8 Weapons List
----------------
All weapons have unlimited ammunition except for the timed detonators.

(1st Level Only Weapons)

Timed Detonators - These will take a few seconds to detonate and will take down
a wall that's blocking your path. They'll also dispose of any of the HK's that
are on the screen at that time. Don't worry though, they won't hurt you.
Although one thing to be careful of is one of the enemies shooting the
explosive because if they do it won't detonate. You can carry a maximum of 9 of
these detonators at one time. They're spawned at specific points in the game
which is explained in the walkthrough.

Grenades - 2 grenade hits will take down the HK's (Hunter-Killers). They're
not that easy to use as you have to be in the right distance for
them to hit the enemy.

Uzi-9mm - You only get this weapon in easy mode. It's located just after you
come down the first ladder. It basically clears through all the HK's in a
couple of shots. It's easy to use and effective, that's why it's only available
in easy mode.

(2nd Level to Final level)

Shotgun - To get the most out of this weapon use the crouch + shoot method as
explained above. It'll take a good few hits to stun/kill the enemies and even
longer to stun the Terminator with.

--------------
1.9 Enemy List
--------------
(1st Level Only)

Armored Tank - The first enemy you encounter armed with a laser cannon that
fires in one direction. Don't let the tank get close to you else you'll be
crushed and killed instantly.

Skynet Aircraft - I don't know the proper name for these. They can be destroyed
with grenades though a few hits to the aircraft and they'll come down, but
another one will take it's place shortly after you destroy it. They drop
parachute bombs which are easily avoided and can be destroyed with either
grenades or Uzi-9mm.

HK's (Hunter-Killers) - These are basic forms of the Terminator. Not as
powerful though and they can be destroyed with either grenades, Uzi-9mm or
Timed Detonators.

Smaller Armored Tank - A kind of sub-boss if you like, although it's not
essential that you destroy it. He's got a mounted uzi of some type which
can be avoided with a simple crouch.

(2nd Level and 3rd Level Only)

Helicopter - Will only ever attack when you're on the rooftops. You can't
destroy it but like the skynet aircraft it's easily avoidable.

Police - Armed with hand-guns. The police can only be stunned when you shoot
them. They'll drop to the floor and after a few seconds rise back up again. If
you stun them a few times they'll start to blink and not get up for a longer
time.

Punks - These annoying things will throw molotov cocktails at you although.
Unlike the police they can be killed.

Terminator 101 - Again the terminator cannot be destroyed by shotgun alone.
He's armed with a killer weapon that reaches a huge range. So be sure to get
the hell out it's path when he's firing it. He can only be stunned and you can
only get past him when you've stunned him a few times enough to make him blink.
Don't mess with the Terminator, just get out of his path as quickly as
possible.

(Level 4)

Terminator Endo-Skeleton - He'll move around quite fast although dragging one
leg behind him. A few shotgun shots will push him back a bit but he'll keep
coming. After you've shot him a few times he'll be just a torso dragging
himself along the floor. You can't destroy him with shotgun alone.

------------------------------------------------------------------
II. Complete Walkthrough - This applies to all difficulty settings
------------------------------------------------------------------

If you choose to start off in Easy Mode you'll be given the Uzi-9mm at it makes
the first level a hell of a lot easier. The walkthrough applies to all
settings.

----------------------------------
2.1 Level 1 - Los Angeles, 2029 AD
----------------------------------

You'll start armed with grenades. Walk along until you see the first pickup of
timed detonators. Collect the timed detonators and then move off the stop from
where they came. They will then be infinitely spawned in this place so wait and
collect as many detonators as you can carry (you can carry 9 at one time)
because you never know when you may need an extra one.

Head forward and you'll encounter the first enemy which is the armored Tank.

Walk just underneath the laser cannon so that you're out of the cannons range.
Be careful not to the let the tank drive over you else it's instant death. When
throwing a grenade whilst he's shooting it will stop the cannon fire
momentarily. A good amount of grenades will destroy him.

Next move on until you encounter Skynet's Aircraft. It will be dropping
parachute bombs which are easily avoided. So dodge the bombs until you reach
the first small highpoint of the rocky terrain. Throw a few grenades and be
patient. A good few grenades will take him down and as soon as he hits the
floor run quickly to the right. Another aircraft will be spawned almost
instantly after you take down the previous one, you can wait and destroy it or
carry on because it doesn't really matter.

Move down the set of ladders and you'll come to the first floor. Walk upto the
wall that's blocking your path and place a timed detonator there. This will
blow the wall open and all of the HK's that are on the screen. It won't damage
you, no matter how close you are to it.

Carry on walking to the left and you'll encounter loads of HK's. The best
method to destroy them is use the crouch and shoot method as explained above.
2 grenade hits will take care of them. Try not to worry about the HK's that
are behind you unless they're really close behind. As soon as you take out a HK
in front of you then move forwards. Deal with them in this way on the whole
level. And you can't destroy all the HK's that are in your path because they'll
just keep coming endlessly, so always remember to keep moving. If you're in a
jam surrounded by HK's then drop a timed detonator and it will clear all of the
HK's on the screen although if the detonator is shot then it won't detonate.

(Whenever I mention moving over stairs then refer to the 'never cross an enemy
on the stairs' technique above)

Keep moving to your left over the set of stairs all the way to the end of the
corridor. At this point there is a timed detonator spawn where you can fill up
on more detonators if you need to.

Go down the flight of stairs right to the bottom and walk to your left. This is
where you'll encounter the smaller armored tank which is equipped with an
uzi-9mm. You can avoid this simply by crouching. Be careful when attempting to
destroy it because the HK's will keep coming up behind you. Destroying this
armored tank is optional, destroying it doesn't gain you anything else but
points. So if you're low on health or not feeling upto the challenge then
simply avoid this part.

Move back up the stairs and jump onto the next level. Keep going right and down
the next set of stairs, you should see a row of 3 gas tanks, if you see them
you know you're on the right track. You should eventually come to a wall. Blow
up the wall and proceed up the stairs. You should see on the level below that
this is a huge red reactor. Head down there and place a detonator next to it. As
soon as it explodes the screen will turn red and you will have 45 seconds to
get the hell out of there at go back in time.

Head all the way back to the gas tanks, go up the stairs and jump to your right
onto the next level. Go up the ladder that you come to and keep running to the
right and ignore the bombs that the plane is dropping because you probably
won't have time to deal with them. Run into the time time machine and you'll be
sent back to 1984!

----------------------------------
2.2 Level 2 - Los Angeles, 1984 AD
----------------------------------

You're in 1984. Throughout the rest of the game now you will only be armed with
the shotgun. The best and fastest method of shooting is to use the crouch +
shoot method as explained above. So whenever you need to deal with enemies it's
best to use this method.

You'll be dealing with 2 enemies in this level.

Helicopter - Will only ever attack when you're on the rooftops. You can't
destroy it but like the skynet aircraft it's easily avoidable.

The easiest and fastest way of clearing this level is to keep to the rooftops
even though you'll be attacked by the helicopter this is still the easiest way
of doing it.

Head up the first set of ladders and keep moving to your right. Then jump on
the next roof with the satellite on. Then jump on the next with the set of
ladders on it. Jump again onto the next roof, if you jump high enough you'll
grab the top of the pole and swing across, pointless but fun. Head up the next
set of ladders over the roof of the cinema. Jump and swing onto the pole and
then jump over the ladders onto the final roof and drop down onto the ground.By
staying to the rooftops you'll have missed out loads of enemies making it a
hell of a lot easier and quicker.

Deal with the enemies and keep heading right and walk into the phone box at the
end.

Now head right and up the beams. Get right to the top of the beams and jump off
as far as you can to the ground.Keep heading right and go up the first set of
ladders. Then the next set. And then you'll come to another set that lead down
off the building. But don't go down them. Instead jump off the edge and if you
jumped enough you'll land on another building rooftop. Drop down from that roof
and head into the Technoir Bar.

Keep heading right until you see the beam of bullets from the Terminators gun.
He should be on the platform above you so just keep shooting at him. Stun him
3 times and his body will start to blink, meaning you can run past him. Run all
the way to the end where Sarah Connor is waiting at a table.

--------------------------------------
2.3 Level 3 - West Palm Police Station
--------------------------------------

You're now in the police station and you've gotta find Sarah Connor before the
Terminator does. You'll just be dealing with the punks, police and the
Terminator again. Head all the way to your left and up the flight of stairs.
Then all the way to your right and up the stairs. Now left and up the stairs
and finally go up the ladder onto the roof. Head right and down the ladders and
keep going right. Head down the ladder and left.

You'll now be approaching the Terminator. As soon as you see his bullets then
crouch + fire and when he drops to the floor move back a bit and repeat. Then
Once more and run past him whilst his body is blinking. Go up the stairs and
left all the way until you reach Sarah Connor.

-------------------------------------
2.4 Level 4 - The Final Confrontation
-------------------------------------

On the final level the only thing you will encounter will be the Terminator
Endo-Skeleton.

Quickly run forward and shoot him back then run up the stairs so he's
underneath you. Then climb the ladder to the top. Shoot him back twice and
head down the ladders. Then keep heading right and go up the stairs. Shoot him
back and go down the steps. Then down the ladder and head right. Go up the
stairs and up the ladder and keep heading right down the stairs. Shoot him back
again and head up the ladder. Then jump onto the next platform and watch him
drop off the platform next to you.

You should see now that the Terminator is broken in half and is just a torso
moving around, despite his size you cannot jump over him.

Jump onto the next platform and down the ladder and keep heading right to where
Sarah Connor is. The compactor will crush the Terminator and you will have
completed the game.
