"The Nastiest Game ever made."
RAGE!!!! When I first heard this word, I was 6 years old, and it was on this game. I was at my uncle's, and he rented this game to show my sister and myself some of the hilarity's of the game. You all thought Mortal Kombat was bad (it is/was), but this game blows it out of the water. Mortal Kombat took blood and gore to a new level, nd Primal Rage shot it up so high, a drug addict couldn't touch it. Game play will be our first subject today.
Game play: 9/10
The Game play in this game is second (of all 2D fighters) to Mortal Kombat. The fighting system is similar to Street Fighter, however adds a nice feature (more on that in a second). There is a low quick strike, and a high quick strike. There is also a low fierce strike, and a high fierce strike. With a three button controller, you can configure the controls around how you want them, however with a six button controller, button's C and Z become 2 of the three (simpler) special attacks. There are also a wide range of special attacks (about 10 or so) per character, along with about 5 fatalities per character. You can also fool around with the followers if you get bored during a match. The game modes are what is lacking most in game play, that's not a big deal though. So the game play is good, how about the story?
Story: 9/10
The story in this game is fantastic for a fighting game. If an RPG had a storyline like this game, I'd actually play it. A meteor has hit the Earth, and almost all of life has been wiped out. Its the stone age all over again, and the Gods of yesteryear have awakened, and taken the forms of various creatures (dinosaurs, apes etc.). To become the leader of the Earth, the creatures face off in a tournament, the winner becoming that leader. Each character also has their own motives and origins and that makes the story very good. On to graphics.
Graphics: 7/10
The graphics on this game are fantastic, and ok. Ok are the character's who look very good, however not good enough. The backgrounds are very good for Genesis, and with the followers running around, it makes the backgrounds look fantastic. Nothing is overly blurry, and nothing is sharp as a pencil either, but it gets the job done. Sounds are next.
Sounds: 8/10
Was that Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple? No its just Sauron's level music, but it does sound very similar. The music is very good in this game, and the sounds are just a shade behind them. There are normal fighting sounds such as punching, kicking etc., however there are also sounds for hitting the ground hard, sounds of the followers screaming etc. Overall, the sounds are great. Replay ability is last on the docket.
Replay ability: 7/10
Lacking a bit in this game is replay ability. After beating the game with each character, there is little to do. There is a cheat menu that gives a few more options, such as the, "feast," stage, a volleyball game, and a bowling game.
Buy or rent?
As with all of my reviewed games, this game will be near impossible to rent, thus just go and buy it. Even if you don't play it very often, it is good to have for parties, and for novelty purposes, since it is such a unique game.
This is the ultimate blood, guts, and gore game. Plus not only that, there are farts, feces, vomits, and a certain other disgusting move that you will have to find out for yourself. Give this game a chance, its better than you think. Remember one thing though, Chaos reigns supreme!
