"Rise from your grave.( and get owned by undead)"
Altered Beast was made by Sega in the year 1988. This game is considered to be a classic among Sega games. I would agree with he part that it is a classic however it is still crap. In the game all you seem to do is get by the undead every single minute of the game since your character sucks at jumping. For this review im going to actually put out numbers for each section since I seem to for get most of the time. I had this game when I was like four or three. I was always scared of this game for some strange reason. I never really play it much but my brothers sure liked this game.
Story line 2/10: You are a dead person who gets resurrected to save a daughter of a Greek god. He resurrects you and you must go on for five stages killing monsters until you save her. "Yawn".
Game play 6/10: The game play is probably the best part of the game since you can transform in to different monsters and kick ass. You can transform in to a wolf, a bat, a tiger, a bear, and a (I think) wolf again. Also along the way you can make your character stronger by killing the white wolf who gives your character power ups. The low point of the game play is that you die to easily and the enemies are very hard to hit( some of them at least).
Graphics 5/10: The graphics were not too bad for an old Sega game. Your character was always well shown whether or not he was transformed. Also the cut scenes after each stage isn't bad either. It shows detailed pictures of what the evil wizard guy plans to do with the daughter. However I have seen the Sega Genesis do better graphics (for example: Ranger X).
Controls 1/10 : Another dull part of the game. Each button only does one command. Also not every button is even used, only buttons B and C are used for jumping and attacking. The D-pad is for moving and the start button is for starting the game. To shoot fire balls with your beast all you do is press the B button. You can do a high jump if and only if you press up and then jump.
Unlockables(N/A): There are no unlockables to the game. If you want to know any secrets about the game look it up on Gamefaqs cheats and hidden secrets of this game.
In a final summary i would give this game a 4 because it is a classic but not a very good one. I'm pretty sure this version did better then the new version on Play Station 2 (made by the Sega Ages group). Also this game gets a 4 because the voice acting is so bad it's almost as if it were a comedy show in ancient Greece. The main god guy sounds like Elmer Fudd or some other cartoon character who can't seem to speak proper English. The evil wizard guy sounds like som scratchy old guy from the show Monty Python's Flying circus or some thing similar. The ending to game is also very corny.
