The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Review by LeQuack147
"Gone Huntin'.... On Site B"
Story- It's simple, the player(s) play hunters on Site B. The hunters go around doing various tasks on the island, like rescuing allied hunters, and capturing dinosaurs. There's not much more to it than that.
Gameplay- Definitely some of the best Genesis has to offer. You start with a top view, controlling your hunter as he runs around, or drives to complete his missions. Of course, the dinosaurs are going to get in the way, so the hunter is well equipped with weapons like a taser, a dart gun, and a machine gun. The hunter also has a truck and a hovercraft for speedy transport, and protection against some threats.
After a few successful missions, you can enter something of a Boss Fight. For the first of these special missions, you switch to a first-person view to chase down a raptor on a motorcycle, dodging trees and firing at other motorcycles. It's an interesting change from the somewhat calmer normal missions that the player will usually be doing.
The A.I. for your enemies is impressive, enemies such as the spitters will attack viciously, then run away as the player starts pounding them. The hostile hunters will pick up ammunition on the ground, and use it against you. Enemies will normally avoid environmental hazards *toxic plants, falling rocks* as well.
The environmental threats are no small problem, either. With things like blasts of steam and sudden bursts of lava, the player will be on his or her toes even when no foes are on screen.
Because of the enemie's different methods of attack, the player needs to change strategy on occasion. Diplo's can usually be downed by firing a couple darts, while Raptors will require something with more power, like the aforementioned machine gun.
This game implements an interesting feature- JP tokens. When the player collects 5 tokens, supplies will be dropped by plane. The tokens are found in the environment, and are also awarded for tranquilizing dinos.
Dinosaurs can only be tranquilized by certain weapons, like the taser or the gas grenades. The enemies have 2 bars under their icons, 1 red, 1 blue. Depleting the red bar with regular weapons will kill the enemy, and using tranq weapons will knock down the blue bar and eventually result in a sleeping dinosaur.
Graphics- The graphics in from the top-view are very good, and the first person views are even better in some cases. Enemy structures such as tents and bunkers will go from perfect condition to slightly damaged to battered into nothingness as the player attacks them.
The environment looks very good, from thick folliage to pools of lava. Though the player is usually too busy hurrying to next area to take note of it. The dinosaurs look very well done, from the baby T-rexes to the triceratops.
Sound- Not much to say here either. The sounds for the weapons and dinosaurs are appropriate, to say the least. The vehicles sound like vehicles and nothing else.
Put simply, this is a great genesis game, and it would be a shame to not to try it, given a chance.
