Double Dragon 3: The Arcade Game
Review by sammysky
"Triple Disappointment"
When I first encounter Double Dragon 3 for Sega Genesis, I think the game is a direct port from NES Double Dragon 3. But I am wrong. Once I play the game, it does not resemble the superb NES Double Dragon 3. In fact, Double Dragon 3 for Sega Genesis is a poor game. Here is a reason why:
Graphic: 6/10
The graphic in Double Dragon 3 is not good. The character sprite looks flat and uninspiring. The character animation looks ordinary. The game background do not look appealing. Overall the graphic in Double Dragon 3 is not up to par with the previous Double Dragon series.
Sound: 6/10
The music in Double Dragon 3 is almost the same like its graphic. It sounds flat and uninspiring. The sound effect is not too bad. Overall the sound in Double Dragon 3 do not sound very bright either.
Control: 8/10
The bright spot in the game. The control scheme in Double Dragon is quite simple. One button for punch. One button for kick. One button for jump. Executing moves is quite a breeze. Overall the control feels all right.
Gameplay: 6/10
Another letdown in the game. Uninspiring graphic, uninspiring music, and uninspiring game mechanic tone down the overall enjoyment of this game. While control is all right, the action in the game is quite subdue. The lack of good animation hampered the action in the game. Another bad game mechanic is that the game requires you to purchase special moves and weapon. This is very bad. Do you really need to purchase a hurricane kick? I do not think so. Overall the gameplay is bad.
Story: 8/10
The story in Double Dragon 3 is quite interesting. Billy's girlfriend, Marian, has been kidnapped. An old woman tells Billy and Jimmy to get three Rosetta Stone in order to set Marian free. Billy and Jimmy start their journey to find the Rosetta Stone and free Marian.
Overall: 6/10
Double Dragon 3 is quite disappointing game. The graphic, the music, and the gameplay is a letdown. The only thing that prevent this game to get a score lower than 6 is because it is a Double Dragon franchise. If you interested to play this game, go rent it.
