"I Love the 90's: X-Men Edition!"
Story: 6/10
Yes of course, evil is once again lurking about and it is up to our mighty X people to put a stop to this atrocity. Crazy premise for a game, eh?
Graphics: 8/10
This game offers a sharp, crisp look that still impresses me to this day. The environments are highly detailed, the characters are good looking and back in the day those pixels where easily looked over without too much fussing.
Sound: 4/10
This is where the game leaves a bad taste in my mouth. What is really up with the sound effects in this game. They're downright terrible and comparing the music of this game to some of the heavyweights such Streets of Rage or Shinobi and maybe even Sonic. With that said, lets just end it by saying the sound is bad, it's forgettable and just...bleh.
Gameplay: 8/10
Ok...well lets see here. We got some beat em up, throw in some platforming, and even a little bit of puzzle solving and you got a hell of a good gaming experience. 4 main characters of Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, and Nightcrawler with secondary characters of Rogue, Jean Grey, Iceman, and Archangel to aid you along the journey. The secondary characters just pop in when you summon them, do there little majiks and disappear again until their next summoning.
This game is difficult. Why is this game difficult. Typical enemies, predictable attacks, jump from one ledge to another...what's the deal right, I must be the suxxor to get stumped on a Genesis game, and an X-Men game to boot. Well strategically placed bad guys, cheap attacks that almost always seem to connect, ledges that hate to be touched so they're either too small, too far away or too mean to let me mediocre my way through.
Playtime/Replay Value: 7/10
Considering the controller tossing difficulty and the tendency to put the game on mute...It's still a fun game with solid gameplay for hardcore comic fans and casual gamers alike.
Hooray for nostalgia right. X-Men games will continued to be pumped out, some good, most of them bad...bordering terrible, but at least we'll be able to look back at the golden age of Genesis and have this gem to drool on. *does a barrel roll*
