"That Bloody Knockout Nightmare..."
When I was 3 , this was one of the first games that I played, and it is a game that I still play readily to this day. It becomes a very difficult game as the game progresses, almost to the point of impossible (though it is possible). Sheer simplicity has never been more fun, and while the PC version is considered superior, the Genesis version is just as good, as game play will show you.
Game play: 9/10
Again, pure simplicity. Since the game was originally intended for computers, the game is basically point and click. And for the Genesis, all you have to do is highlight your ball, hold down the A button, and, "pull," the cursor back and let the ball go. Each hole has a unique attribute, be it a extra stroke timer, and/or an extra stroke fairy. These appear at random, and they appear on any hole, save for the first, the last, and Knockout nightmare. Story will be covered next.
Story: N/A
There is no story with Zany Golf, though there really could have been (it probably would not have been too good though considering the circumstances). Graphics are up next.
Graphics: 6/10
While not terrible, the graphics in Zany Golf are nothing to write home about. Everything is mediocre, though some objects such as the geometric shapes, the Hamburger, and the Pinball Machine look nice. Your ball is basically just a coloured sphere, nothing more, nothing less. Sounds are about as equal.
Sounds: 6/10
Same here with the sounds, they are nothing truly special to write home about. The music on the other hand is quite bouncy and light hearted, and fits the mood of the game very well. The game is also not too replay able.
Replay ability: 4/10
After this game is beaten, you will probably not have much desire to play it again. Though I play it quite a bit, because I keep losing on Knockout Nightmare!!!
Buy or rent?
This would have been a renting title if you could still rent Genesis games, so buying is the only option of playing it nowadays.
A good, fun little title to play, and one that is made by a guy who used to be my mom's boss!... That is, she had a boss named Will Harvey, though it was not the same Will Harvey. You did well Will, but ya could have done better.
