Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Crossroads of Time

Review by Ace14

"Star Trek at it's best for the 16 bit era."

Gameplay 10/10

I am a Star Trek fan, but even if I wasn't, I think I would find this game enjoyable. The gameplay is simply FUN and challenging too. You control Commander Sisko, commander of Deep Space Nine (most of the game anyway, at some points you will get to control a couple of other characters). You always start off on Deep Space Nine, though there is no danger here, it is still challenging, because you must solve puzzles, and talk to people on the station, such as Major Kira, Odo, and even Quark, who give you information that you need before you can go onto the dangerous parts of the game. When you are on the main levels (not the station), you carry equipment like Phasers, tricorders, and more, depending on the level you are on, but you have your basic phaser and tricorder on almost every level except when on the Station. You will have to use your equipment to help you on the levels, your phaser for destroying objects and defending yourself against enemies, you also have your tricorder to take readings of objects you may come across. Naming just a couple of the things you will come across in the game, you'll have to work your way through the confusing and dangerous bajoran catacombs, battle cardassians in the lower pylon of the station, and even go back in time to Sisko's past and relive his worst memory.

Storyline 10/10

I haven't played this game in a long time, so I don't remember the whole storyline, I do remember that it was great, and here is what i remember... The cardassians are up to no good, as usual, and you have to stop them from accomplishing their mission (destroying deep space nine if i remember right). There is a good amount of depth in the story, and it keeps you interested.

Graphics 8/10

The graphics are good considering they are on a 16 bit system, each level has good detail. The characters may not look as good as on newer systems, but if you have watched Deep Space Nine the show, you won't have a problem recognizing them.

Sound 8/10

For the most part, the sound is great, I don't really know how to describe it, but it won't disappoint you.

Replayability 8/10

For me, I found it fun to play over and over, just because it is fun punching out cardassians, and pounding the borg with phaser fire (which they do adapt, so this isn't easy). In my opinion, replay is great.

Rent or buy?

If you are a Star Trek fan, definitely buy, it can't cost too much, probably around 10 bucks. If you aren't a Star trek fan, rent it first, you might find it good enough to buy.
