Garfield: Caught in the Act

Review by Vegetaman

"Garfield gone haywire???"

Garfield: Caught in the Act is about everyone's favorite cartoon character (except Snoopy) when he gets sucked inside his Television.

Game Play
Not exactly the greatest game to come along, especially for the Sega Genesis system. The controls aren't that great either. Use the pad to move, and set the buttons to do what you want them to (jump, throw, etc.). The best part of the gameplay is the secret places you can get to if you step on the right place, or walk through the right wall. The only other cool thing is the commercial breaks where you get chances to win lives or items.

Story
The best part of this game is the story. Garfield is sitting in a chair right in front of the television. He is watching the channels, and gets sucked into the T.V. He flies around a bit until he stops. Next you get to control Garfield. All you have to do is get him to the doorway. When you get him there, you start level 1. The story is basic and easy to follow. If the controls weren't so hard, young kids could enjoy the game.

Audio/Video
The graphics are ok, but the sound is a bit lacking. The sounds are basically cheap and repetitive. There are 3 basic sounds:

1. Throwing an item

2. Entering/Exiting levels

3. Killing a bad guy

Otherwise, it is a slight variation of the sound. Those are the 3 basic or ''core'' sounds. The graphics are a little better. The attempt to make some objects 3D sort of takes away from the game. Otherwise, the graphics are smooth, and defined.

Replay
This game is more of a ''I beat it... NEXT'' type of game. Some people like the game, and will replay it, but many people only like it, just barely, the first time through. The only thing is that if you thought the game was too hard, you can change the setting to Easy, or if you thought it was way to difficult, you can set it to Hard.

To buy
If you don't own this game, and you are seriously thinking about buying it, you should try it out on an emulatior FIRST. Cost us about $7.

Verdict OK
This game is sort of slow paced, but hard to use. The controls are difficult, and it is about mid-way in how good it is. Use descretion before buying!
