"Still fresh today"

Another World was one of the coolest games of its time. Also known as Out Of This World, the game puts you in the shoes of a human named Professor Lester Knight Chaykin, who was performing an experiment at his lab one night, only to have the lab struck by lightning and Lester transported to an alien planet.

Graphically, this was very impressive all those years ago when it was released. The modern gamer might laugh at it, but for the early 90's, it had great animation and images. It is played from a side-on view (like Sonic or Mario), and has multiple levels, accessible by elevators, stairs, or falling. The game has a lot of cinema sequences too, showing important parts of the story

The sound is very good too. The gun has different tones for its different methods of operation, there are some voices, and some cool music.

The story is quite simple. Get transported to another planet, meet some aliens that want to kill you. However, and I'm trying not to give too much of the story away here, near the start of the game, you are locked in a cage with an alien (who I will refer to as Buddy), and after you befriend him by letting him and you out of prison. You also have to watch out for Buddy well as yourself, because you need him to get through many parts of the game, so if he dies, you’re finished as well.

The difficulty in this game is quite hard. Its not just a walk around and shoot bad guys, there are many puzzles that need to be solved. Ill be honest, I have never completed this game in its entirety, its too hard. So I wouldn't play this game unless you are ready for a real challenge

The controls are easy enough to learn. Only 2 buttons are used, B is to fire your gun or kick, and if it is held while pressing left or right, you run, and C is jump. Your gun is pretty cool too, pull the trigger it once to fire a normal laser beam, hold the trigger for one second and it creates a force-field which protects you from normal lasers, and hold the trigger for 3 seconds, and it creates a super-duper laser which can blast through almost anything. Your gun is not only for killing the bad guys either, it is often used to solve the puzzles, such as shooting out walls and electrical lines.

Another World, although first published in 1991, is still fresh and original even today. It is recommended to anyone who is looking for a challenge.
