Ys III: Wanderers from Ys

Review by Paulos

"A slightly difficult, yet very fun RPG for Genesis."

*NOTE, This is the SEGA GENESIS VERSION of YS III*

In this game, you are Adol, a great warrior who travels the lands of Ys with his Thief friend, Dogi. They must travel to Dogi's hometown after severe evil happening have been occuring more than it usually has done. Dogi is glad to be back in his hometown, and Adol and Dogi meet up with Elena who you will see in the game several other times.

You start off with Adol, 20 HP, Swordsman, and he must travel around town, eventually when you get more gold you can buy heavier armor and better swords, and items. It is quite a fun game, however I found gameplay a bit too difficult because you can die in less than seconds if you do not move Adol around all over to attack the enemies, rather and very odd thing of a game, yet I believe it was quite fun for me, well, it was at least for ME :)

Graphics: 35%
Words: Actually, Graphics were slightly horrid with your own character even, and the own anime that was drawn looks sort of cheaply done and old time... just saying, you will see what I mean if you ever play the Sega Genesis version, I can tell you that! :)

Sound: 48%
Words: Sound was terrible, but it was slightly close to bad. Some annoying tracks and midi tunes, and the SOUND EFFECTS were so horrid really, when you attacked with your sword it sounded like slashing into a cardboard box with a knife! Seriously!

Replay: 0%
Words: Absolutely, positively, completely, and undoubtfully NO Replay value at ALL for this game, and I am not insulting the game for that, it is just that after you play this game and finally finish it, you really do want to throw it in your old Sega Genesis cabinet for like YEARS, I know I did!

Gameplay: 26%
Words: I disliked the Gameplay, it was annoying how you could die in seconds and it took forever to gain levels, you had to kill several monsters to even gain one level, and it was very hard to kill just ONE monster in the beginning stages! You had to like attack it over four times and that is difficult because the monsters were ALWAYS moving! That is what I meant when I said earlier in this review that you always had to move your Adol so much.

Story: 12%
Words: Very bad story, very, very, very, very, very bad story I must say, one of the worst I ever saw or reviewed.

Characters: 17%
Words: The only characters I liked really was Adol and Elena, and that was BARELY LIKING THEM WHEN I REVIEWED THEM REALLY.

Violence: 6%
Words: Well in this game when you slash monsters they almost fall apart and explode, but not into gore.

Final Words: If you find it real cheap, buy it, if it is over $10, do not buy it, unless you think its worth it... I bought it for $3.99 and that was worth it!... sort of! But yet, semi okay rpg!
