Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Review by TheIronMan
"Another plot about radioactive mishaps."
The evil Dr. Tongue has created an army of the undead! His toxic waste dumping shenanigans have raised the dead and created a few monstrosities as well. Now you must save your neighbors from the deadly hoards. Delightful campiness ensues.
Zombies Ate my Neighbors is a pretty cool game. With 45+ levels to fight your way through and some neat enemies, Zombies knows just how to pay tribute to all of those campy old horror movies. You play as either a boy named Zeke or a girl named Julie. Neither character has any specific traits. You must fight zombies, mutant blobs, chainsaw maniacs, axe-throwing babies, a giant baby, mummies. All kinds of fun stuff.
With all of these enemies to vanquish you would wonder about the weapons. Well just let me tell you that there are plenty of them. A standard water pistol crafted after an Uzi, dinner plates, weed eaters for mutant plants and mushrooms, a fire extinguisher, silverware, even a rocket launcher. All of these should keep those evil hoards at bay.
The levels aren't too entertaining. The better levels are the suburban ones. The game has an overhead view and all of the levels are maze based. You just run around rescuing your neighbors from horrid monsters whilst disposing of the monsters as well. The levels become very repetitive after a while, but they're still fun. Among suburban areas there are also pyramids, factories, castles, grocery stores.
The neighbors you must save are of a nice variety. Cheerleaders, babies, soldiers, people on trampolines, tourists, dogs, a person grilling burgers. Each one has a certain number of points. The cheerleaders are worth the most amount of points. Babies come second. The neighbors that are worth the least amount of points are the disgruntled looking school teachers. I almost hate to save them.
The music in this game is pretty cool, too. The low tones and bass notes really set the mood. I enjoy the music most during the more serious levels.
The controls aren't bad either. They won't fail.
Zombies Ate my Neighbors is a delightfully fun and sometimes funny game. I have always loved movies about the dead rising from their graves and also movies about radioactive mutants. Did I mention that this game is from Lucasarts? Who would've thought? Check this game out. It's frightfully delightful.
