Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist
Review by Paul_
"I hate to give the a turtles a bad score but here's why..."
I hate to give the turtles a bad score, but this game is basically turtles in time for the snes, but worse. The game may have better graphics but does that really matter?
Graphics:
The graphics are incredible for it's time. These graphics are just a tad better than the snes version turtles in time, but it still stands out. The backgrounds are either the same or new, which is pretty cool. It lost a point because most of the characters and backgrounds came from turtles in time.
Overall: 9/10
Story:
What story? In a nut shell shredder has stolen the statue of liberty again, this time by teleporting it. I didn't play much of the game because I couldn't stand it, but the levels I did play went from sewers, to streets, to sewers, to sunken ships? Then from there to caverns. It's really weird but still it's fun to bash the footsoldiers even if they're a little harder in this game.
Overall: 3/10
Control:
The control is the same but this time on a genesis pad. I didn't like, however, where they placed the run button. In this game the combos happened less often (combos are taking the footsoldiers and smashing them on the ground), and I don't even know if you can throw the footsoldiers like in turtles in time. You can beat the game with these controls but I prefer the snes pad.
Overall: 7/10
Gameplay:
Who wouldn't love countless footsoldier bashing. The only reason I keep this game around is for the simplicity this game offers. Konami did a real nice job on turtles in time, and when they don't reach the point turtles in time reached with hyperstone heist, it gets disappointing. I think if turtles in time didn't come out, this game would have gotten a better score. For some reason though I thought this game was a little harder than the snes version, the main reason I think it's harder is because it's hard to pull of the combo moves. Still this game is a lot better than most games I play today.
Overall: 4/10 (Mainly because the combo moves.)
Buy or rent?
I don't think you can rent genesis games anymore, but if you can I would definitely rent it. This game is actually quite rare, so I doubt you would just happen to run into it like I did. I didn't know what to expect when I bought the game, because I played the horrible turtle fighters game before this, but it's not so bad and if you do see this game somewhere for sale or rent I would definitely pick it up if you like turtles in time.
Overall
If you have a snes I would much rather pick up turtles in time, but you should really try this game out and see if you like it, especially if you're a turtle fan. However if you hated turtles in time, or just don't like the turtles very much, then don't waster your time. Don't get me wrong, I love the turtles so much that I have all the toys still under my bed, but this game just stinks on ice.
