"A Very Hard, yet Very Good Game to Own"
Introduction:
(Don't you love random Capitalizations? I know I do!)
Anyway, this game was released way back, when the Genesis was the best system ever...well, the Genesis and SNES were the best systemS ever. I saw this at a local game store, so I picked it up, the words ''Kid'' and ''Chameleon'' really attracting me to it. So I went home, played it, and did so for the next months, never actually beating the game. Now, I always wondered to myself how someone can review a game if they haven't enjoyed all of it, but hear me out on this.
Graphics:
The graphics, I thought, were pretty good for the Genesis. They weren't anything really difficult to achieve, but at least they weren't horrible. The character designs (well, y'know, the transformation people) were awesome in their own.
Score: 8/10
Gameplay:
This is the only Sega Genesis game that I owned that actually worked with my broken control. It's almost as if this game had some good-curse on it. Anyhow, the gameplay is nothing out right revolutionary, it's your standard 16-bit side scrolling action. You jump, spin, kill the monsters and you make it to the end of the level within a certain amount of time. Sounds easy, doesn't it? Well, it's not. Especially with 50+ levels to go through, this game can take you a while, and at the end you probably won't even beat it, but you sure did waste your whole Sunday up. There's not much else to say here.
Score: 6/10
Sound:
The music was catchy, and it wasn't bad either. The sounds were pretty funny (DIE!) and not really anything bad to judge seeing as it was a Genesis game. Not much else to say.
Score: 5/10
Characters:
This has got to be the best part of the game. You take control of one kid, but this kid turns into millions (not actually millions) of different things! He can turn into an axe-thrower, a tank, a cyclonic-futuristic-daredevilish-cool looking guy, a fly, and guy with a board (snow? hover? skate? not sure), a guy with a backpack and a radioactive gun, and many other things. Each character with their own special unique weapon and way to get out of the levels ahead. This adds the variety this game needed to score higher than a 4.
Score: 9/10
Story:
A video game makes kids disappear, and it's up to you to get to the bottom of this! Amazing story, isn't it? Well, it's not, but I don't see how else you could make a story out of this video game. Everything in this video game pretty much ties up with the story, but there aren't any cut-scenes or anything, just the basic intro and outro (I'm sure there's an outro...then again, I haven't beaten it, remember?). It's nothing worth going googoo over, and it definitely won't be made into a book/movie/etc. But deal with it, this game was made in the days where everything was COOL, damn cool kids...
Score: 1/10
Replay Value / Fun Factor:
The game really shows it's stuff in this section. That's right kids, you'll spend hours and hours playing this game, perhaps eventually beating it. But it's no easy task, anyone who's played the game before will tell you that. And the hours you spend in this game aren't usually frustrating. You have fun in this game as well, so don't think of it as a life-spending waste, think of it as entertainment to keep your butt off the streets.
Score: 9/10
Final Thoughts:
Say, that's a pretty low score the Story got, isn't it? Well yes it is, but that won't bring down the total score, because the Story isn't exactly what I was focusing on while playing this game. The challenge this game gives you is enough to sell it, nonetheless enjoy it. The sound is average and the graphics are good, so then why buy this game? Because it's FUN! You'll enjoy the countless hours you've spent on this game. I seem to emphasize the fact that this game is long, don't I? Well, it is, and that's something you're gonna have to face once you actually play this game. Just make sure you have the time though, because of the worse feature of this game: YOU CAN'T SAVE! You heard me right, it's not in this game, which makes it even HARDER. But no fret, some experience and you should be able to beat it? Right? Right...?
Final Score: 7/10
Final Score because of the NO SAVE function: 6/10
(Final Score is not an average)
