Super Smash T.V.

Review by scrotomthepuppy

"Big money, big prizes, you'll love it"

*sigh* Super Smash TV....One of my favorite games. While it might of been one of my favorites it did have its problems. This game was pretty simple. From the beginning you can get the theme of the game as the announcer says ''Total carnage, I love it.'' Hehehe, sounds like my kind of game. You were on a futuristic game show where you were dropped in an arena and had to fight your way out. Let's break it down.

STORY: 3/10
As I said, it was a simple game. A game show where you killed your way out. Either kill or be killed, simple concept. Now it is a game show, right? You're laying your life on the line so what do you get in return? Cash, gold, brand new toasters, brand new cars, and VCR's were just some of the things you would ''win'' from this game show. This game was set in the future, and pretty much was intended for a male audience, as you can tell from the excessive violence and scantily clad women around the game show host. Not much of a story but it is an attempt at one. I give it a wonderful score of a 3.

GAMEPLAY: 8/10
Simple concept, you have a gun that you can get power ups on. You are faced with tons of enemies that endlessly run at you meeting their doom. Not much else to it except as you progress through the arenas and come to the end,you fight a boss. Pretty much like every other game. It might not sound like much but don't bash it until you try it. I give it an 8.

CONTROLS: 2/10
Ugh. Disgusting at first. If you play with one controller good luck because to me this is the hardest way to play. Each button corresponds by shooting a different type. Like ''B'' will shoot behind you no matter what. Now to me that is just a little too confusing. If you play with two controllers however, the controls get a little better, emphasis on little. Now one controller moves your character while the other shoots in the direction you press. Overall the controls straight up are horrible. It hinders the game a little bit and shall recieve a 2.

MUSIC/SOUND: 7/10
I never really listened to a game's music too much especially a game like this. But this game's music and sounds are tolerable nothing that required me to turn down the sound. The music is a little catchy, and the sound effects are ok. However one thing that does catch my attention a little is how the game show host speaks. Saying such things as ''Total carnage, I love it.'' or ''Big money, big prizes, you'll love it.'' These sayings have become legendary between me and my brother. If I was a bigger fan of music and sound I would elaborate more but since I am not, it shall get a 7.

DIFFICULTY: 9/10
Quite a difficult game despite the simple concept. With the controls and what seems to be an endless supply of enemies this game is a little harder than you might think. Maybe if the controls were a little better the game wouldn't be so hard. It gets a 9.

REPLAY VALUE: 7/10
This is a great game to just pop in and play for the hell of it. Just pop it in when you're a little angry and play till the end of the first stage or so and you'll feel a lot better. I personally love this game and can never get enough of it. A nice old 7 for replay.

BUY or RENT: Buy
I feel if you can get your hands on a copy of this game buy it. It won't cost much and if you don't like it you can always use it as a coaster for a drink or a door stop. The possibilities are endless.

FINAL STATEMENT:
This game despite major flaws still goes down as a classic in my book. After you learn to accept the controls, and understand the simple concept you should easily be on your way to loving this game. Go out and get yourself some type of copy of this game and just give it a shot, it can't hurt can it.
