Beyond Oasis

Review by muyguapogrant

"Mediocrity at it's best"

The last game created for the Genesis was known as Beyond Oasis. This game, with stunning graphics, showed the power of the Genesis. Unfortunately, this came out at the end of the Genesis run. However, graphics alone do not make a game, as this game proves.

Story--4/10
You find an armlet that gives you power to control spirits. There's a guy who has an evil armlet, and thus is called ''Dark Armlet.'' He wants to take over the kingdom (of course), and you have to stop him. To do that you must collect all of the spirits, each with their own powers. Very average story at best.

Graphics--10/10
Considering this is a Genesis game, the graphics are superb. They look sega CD graphics, and this shows how much more advanced the Genesis was compared to the SNES. The characters move fluidly, the backgrounds are lush, and the creatures look like creatures, not like pixelated monstrosities for you to crush.

Control--8/10
Very good, considering how many different moves you can perform. However, for the most part, it's basic adventure control....jump, attack, summon spirit. The usual. But it does get the job done, so I applaud it for that.

Difficulty--5/10
Nothing too complex in this game. There are a few annoying puzzles, but for the most part, this game is a cake walk. Those puzzles that are difficult though pale in comparison to Landstalker, so if you can get through Landstalker, you should be able to get through this one pretty quickly. This game can be beaten in under 10 hours easily.

Music/sound--5/10
I honestly do not remember a single piece of the music, which means it is not terrible, but then again, it also means that it's not great. It does get the job done, however, it could have been improved vastly.

Replay Value--3/10
Not much here. It just sits under my bed never seeing daylight. There are however, many stones to find, so diehards may be on a quest to find every single stone. Not for me though. Due to a rather poor storyline, this game is not worth playing more than once, unless you are completely bored.

Overall--6/10
This is not the best game, nor is it the worst. However, it is a decent rental for one night or so just to work your way through it if you're completely bored. It's a great mindless time killer. Till next time, this is Muyguapogrant. Peace.
