"The worst hockey game I have ever played..."

Mario Lemieux Hockey is one of the worst hockey games I have ever played in my life. Scratch that last remark; it is one the worst sports games I have ever played in my life. The players don’t even really skate down the ice more than they just drift down the ice. It is very slow and has the least entertaining fights on Earth. Usually, in most hockey games, this is player’s attitude towards a fight: “What, you wanna fight me!?! Bring it!!!” In Mario Lemieux Hockey, this is the player’s attitude towards a fight: “Oh man, a fight? Okay, fine, man I hate fighting.”

Gameplay: 4/10
This game is quite possibly the slowest hockey game ever made. It may be only 16-bit, but I have played tons of 16-bit hockey games that are way faster than this sports gaming tragedy! The fights are more like a chore because they too are so very slow and take forever. The players just are so slow, it almost seems like they are just drifting down the ice instead of skating. It is only fun when you score a goal, which is all too rare because your guy simply won’t go fast while your opponents are darting at you.

Sound: 4/10
The sounds are simply scary, and I don’t mean that in a good way. All the sounds are very compressed and totally lifeless. The music isn’t something to feel good about either. They sound like they were recorded in a dumpster. It’s something that would be better if you listened to music on your stereo instead of this.

Graphics: 6/10
These graphics are O.K. for early Sega Genesis times… but the movements for the players especially during fights have been done poorly.

Challenge: 5/10
It is ridiculously easy to win games, even though your opponent can skate around twice as fast as you. It may seem frustrating when your guys are getting checked all over the place, but usually the other teams are always on defense.

Replay Value: 2/10
I rented this once; I played it twice, and then took it back thirty minutes later. This game has absolutely no replay value. I bet you can see that from reading the first sentence.


Game Time: 7/10
It depends on how long you set the game, or if you do season mode. You can make the game as longer if you wanted to. That is something good.

Mario Lemieux Hockey is officially the worst sports game I have played. It is so very slow… even the fight mode is super slow! Avoid this at all costs.
