"A Fun Tennis Game worth Playing"
Davis Cup Tennis is a relatively unknown, fun Tennis game for the Sega Genesis.
Gameplay - With several options to play like:
Practice, Exhibition, Championship, Davis Cup (Different countries square off), or Championship (A season really)
This game is lots of fun. You can play singles or doubles, also 2 player via 1v1 or doubles co-op or on seperate sides. The controls of this game are very good, you can hit it normally, high, or a lob. Also diving is possible if you can't reach the ball. All in all the controls are responsive and simple. My one Rant is playing doubles with a computer partner. The computer will not always swing at balls wizzing 2 feet past his head! Also you will be playing on your side and he will also go on your side, leaving a huge hole on your side of the court!
Story - Well, although there is no story, the season mode is lots of fun. It shows a world map and has tournaments at different countries for lots of prize money. Weeks go by and your ranking goes up or down depending on how well you do.
Graphics/Sound - The Graphics are great, very smooth and cartoony. They are humorous and colorful and add alot to the game. The courts look great and the spectators cheer after every shot. Another fun part is when the player swears after a bad shot (#$%^$$) or screams yes after a good shot. The sound is really well done. There is no music during play, which makes it seem like real tennis. All you here are grunts and groans after shots and serves, the bounce of the ball off the ground and racket, and the crowd cheering after you dive and win the match. The voices that mention the score are very clear, which is rare for a genesis game.
Play Time/Replayability - If you have a friend who likes to play this can be a very fun game, but it will get boring pretty quick if you are playing alone. Although the season play remedies this alittle.
Difficulty: This game will seem hard at first, but will become easy after a couple hours of play. Almost all the computer characters play the same, no real styles. So once you can beat one player, you can beat them all. This problem is remedied alittle by the option to play at a beginners level, amateur level, or professional level.
The Good:
Responsive, Simple Controls!
Colorful, Cartoony Graphics!
Sporting Really Clear Sound!
You will have lots of Fun in 2 Player modes!
The Bad:
Doubles is real bad with a computer partner, never goes after the ball and doesn't stay on his side.
Could Have Made it 4 Player with the Multitap.
All in all a fun game. Grab it if you like tennis games!
