The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants

Review by BongoGoku

"This game's breathe smells like cat food."

Intro and Stuff

From what I can tell, this game was made only to make money.

Acclaim Guy: Hey! I know! Let's make a crappy game and stick the Simpson's name on it! It'll make millions!!!

The problem with all of Acclaim's Simpsons games was that they were too hard (which would actually be good if you didn't have to start from the beginning each time you lost!), too long (ditto), and had little or no point. This game, my friend, is no exception. What didn't Konami make any console Simpsons games? Their arcade game was great! Also, the arcade game focised on all of the family members and not just Bart. During the time, Bart was seen everywhere and Acclaim wanted to take advantage of it by making Bart the star of all of their games. Anyway, some aliens that we've never seen in the show (what happened to Kane and Codos?) invade the earth and Bart's the only who can see them since he has X-Ray glasses (umm...why does he have X-Ray glasses?).

In order to succeed, the aliens need stuff to put in their machine. First they need purple objects. So the object of the first level is to spray paint all of the purple objects. Yipppeeee!! Also you have to discover if the people are real people or the space mutants using you X-Ray glasses. The thing is that these ''people'' are the same guy. D'oh! These levels seem like they take an eternity to complete. The controls don't seem to help much either. The levels go on like this. Collecting and destroying hats, exit signs, and whatnot.

Show References

The one thing that impressed me was the amount of actual show referances. This is the reason why the game gets a 4 instead of a 1. Let me show you an example by showing you some of the bosses. These are of course, form earlier seasons.

Nelson
Ms. Botz (yep. The babysitter bandit)
Sideshow Bob
Dr Marvin Monroe Gone Crazy (tries to kill you with his shock therapy)

You can also make prank phone calls to Moe and visit Barney's Bowlarama. This adds a nice touch to the game and keeps me playing it for about an hour.

Graphics and Sound

The graphics are pretty bad. The backgrounds are reasonable but Bart looks horrible. He looks like some yellow thing with some red on his chest and blue on his waist. The sound is also pretty bad. They just keep on playing the theme (which is translated badly) over and over again.

Bottom Line

The bottom line is uhhhh.. just stay away from all Acclaim Simpsons games.
