Gargoyles

Review by Red Viper

"It's a good thing most games aren't this bad."

Gargoyles, based on the short-lived cartoon of the same name, is a bad game that would have had trouble being worse.

Gameplay: 3 out of 10
A lot of this game seems to be blind luck. There are many difficult sequences that must be completed perfectly in order to advance. These sequences occur as early as the second level.

Graphics: 5 out of 10
The graphics in Gargoyles are good. Not great, not awesome, just good. They get the job done, showing the game in enough detail to make it playable.

Controls: 3 out of 10
Gargoyles would have benefited greatly from optimization for use with the six-button controller. With three buttons, there's simply too few options. You have a low-damage slash, a jump, a wing flap, and something that is either a shield or useless. (Possibly both)

Sound: 5 out of 10
The Gargoyles theme is reproduced fairly well here. It's the only sound that is worthy of a compliment. The various moans and groans work well for roughly fifteen seconds. Then, it all gets annoying.

Should I buy this game? No.
Should I take this game if someone wants to give it to me for free? No. It's that bad.
