Gadget Twins

"A great game that was overlooked"
I'm surprised to see that there is no information on Gadget Twins on GameFAQs! This was one of my favorite games for the Genesis. A combination of fun and challenge make it worth checking out, if you get the chance.
Gameplay - 9/10
The gameplay in this game is truly innovative and extremely stimulating. You are a tiny, cartoonish-looking airplane that flies through levels which are filled with tons of enemies. The control pad serves as your weapon: each direction on the pad uses one of the weapons attached to your plane. For example, if you hit down, a punching spring will pop out from the bottom of your plane, attacking and killing any enemies within its reach. At the end of every level, after you've collected various treasure, you can spend it on better augmentations for your plane to help you kill enemies faster. This helps especially for bosses, which take numerous hits to defeat. It's really interesting to see what sort of battle machine of an airplane you end up with and how you implement its features to kill enemies. And there are a lot of enemies! You can even play two player and have two planes fighting at once! Although I've never tried it..
Graphics - 7/10
The graphics aren't spectacular, but they are drawn well for its time. Your ''plane'' is displayed in a bright red hue (if you're player 1) and its facial expressions are quite humorous. The thing I like most about the drawings are the level backgrounds. They're quite detailed and nice to look at :-)
Sound - 5/10
The sound is decently fitting for the game. Swooshes, random onomatopoeias and the like make up the majority of sounds in the game. The enemies, however, don't make any noise. The music of the game is OK, if not annoying sometimes.
Story - 3/10
Um...you're a cartoony plane...and there's an evil plane that steals some plane princess and you have to go rescue her. Yeah.
Challenge - 9/10
Gadget Twins is VERY difficult. At least for me. It takes quite a bit of willpower and concentration to make it all the way through the levels. The bosses are extremely tough, and require specific tactics in order to conquer them. The final boss battle is against another, large plane like yourself (the big bad guy of the game =P) who has tons of augmentations as well. Very tough!
Overall - 8/10
Maybe that's not accurate, but I liked this game so much that I'm giving it an 8! You definitely need to check this game out if you own a genesis.
