"WISE FWOM YOU GWAVE!!"
Altered Beast opens up with an Elmer-Fudd like God summoning you from your tomb to fight a bunch of strange bosses. The way you do this is by turning into assorted naked animals such as teddy bears and warewolves. Get pumped up as humans by grabbing the steroid globes until you finally evolve into a big hairy beast.
This is a super short game that came packed in the original Sega Genesis system long before the days of Sonic. You fought through 5 stages and ended up saving a girl. It wasn't hard and at times wasn't even fun. Still, it was betetr than anything else we had seen up to this time, so it was impressive.
Graphics=8.0 Ok, the graphics weren't too bad. Especially compared to the SMS version! Your charatcer was animated decently and the game doesn't look too bad.
Play Control=6.2 Depending on what beast you were in control of, this game's play control could range from average to poor. It doesn't do too much to utilize the full capacity of the original Genesis controller.
Sound=7.0 The first stage had good music, and after that nothing memorable. The voices were pretty impressive back in the day but now seem kind of silly.
Storyline=5.0 Save a girl from a bad guy. *YAWN*-- At least you are a resurrected dead guy who can become monsters, that is kind of neat.
Overall=6.3 It isn't God-Awful, but nothing people are going to be dying to play. Sega had plans to make this a franchise series until Sonic came around-- thank goodness!!
