Review by Jules Rules
"It's okay, but nothing too special.."
I first played Rambo III when my uncle brought it around to play on. To be honest, me and my friends were actually quite hooked on it, for awhile of course, not too long. After seeing the movies, i was pretty enjoying a dose of Rambo gaming action, but it soon got boring. Want to know how it rates? Find out in my review of, Rambo III.
Graphics
Obviously they're not the best graphics you've seen, but it's enough to keep you addicted to the game. You can still make out that Rambo is actually Rambo, which is a good relief. The jeeps, scenery and everything else all look okay too, but nothing special. It's not the best graphics i've seen on a Genesis/Megadrive game, but as i said, it still draws and keeps you addicted. That's what counts, right? You'll visit places like deserts, surrounded with lots of bad-guys and their accessories such as towers, jeeps and grenades, which all look quite okay. Nothing too good with the graphics, though.
Sound
Eh? There isn't really much sound in the game. Well, music there isn't, but effects are, obviously. Yeah, there might be the odd little tune playing, but if so, you can barely hear it, or pay any attention to it in fact. Pretty poor. There's still the gun sounds and everything regular though, which is also a bit of a relief. There isn't really much to say, except the fact that the sound is poor.
Gameplay
Well, to be honest, the Gameplay isn't that cool either. Yeah, you might enjoy the game, but probably on if you're a huge fan of Rambo III and/or Action games. The game can be fun, but it can also be extremely difficult, which takes away the ''fun'' part. You'll probably find yourself getting Game Over on your first couple of tries, but keep continuing and you'll get far, that's when you'll start enjoying the game, as the story develops. As it's a Genesis game, the controls are very easy to get the hang of. You'll get a button for the regular Rambo Mini-Gun, as well as Grenades, and if i can remember correctly, a Rocket Launcher. Very easy to get the hand of. You'll travel to many different scenes in the game, and there will be a few cut-scenes which can crop up, too. When you complete a level, there can be this special ''Boss'' type bonus level, where you get to see Rambo close-up with a special weapon, and shoot, for example, a Helicopter down. I do like them bits, so at least there's one positive in the game :). Pretty average, but definitely not the worst i've seen.
Replayability
No chance. Once you complete it, there isn't any point what so ever in re-playing the game, because there's just no point at all. The game is quite difficult to complete though, so at least you won't complete it straight away and never play it again. But, there isn't no point at all in re-playing it again, you will just keep the game put away for a long, long time.
Buy or Rent?
Well, it's quite difficult to pick this one up now. But, if you do see it for a very good price, and you're into collecting retro games, i would pick it up and keep it for collection. But don't pay too much money for it, as it will just be a waste.
-----------------
Rambo III can be okay at times, but it just doesn't draw the score with me at all. A poor game in my books, and one you definitely shouldn't pick up for quite a lot of money, only a small amount. But, we all know about movies made into games, they're not that good, right? Well, only some are good, unfortunately Rambo III for the Genesis isn't at all.
