Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Review by Sim Kid
"Is Sega's idea of a joke?"
I have heard quite some people say that the 3rd game in a series is usually quite good. I can vouch for that, as Super Mario Brothers 3 was quite good and Super Metroid was pretty good too. Though I can actually contradict that thoery, as Final Fantasy Legend 3 was the 2nd worst in the series. While we are off topic, Phantasy Star III is the worst game in the whole Phantasy star series, and it may be even get onto the worst games of all time list.
The Final boss looks cool.
Now that I've finished with the positives, let's talk about this game, ya?
The graphics are a pathetic excuse for what the genesis is able of. The characters are hardly detailed, you can no longer see them attack (Instead, why don't we just add cheap attacking motions? They'll love them!!), and worst of all, stone heads attack by wiggling their ears. I mean, the graphics in The Prince of Persia for gameboy Color were MUCH better than these, and those are around 8 bit. Okay, the battle graphics were improved, but that's about it.
The music is also pretty bad too. Sure, it isn't as bad as Aladdin for the GBA, which sounds worse than having a person run their nails on the chalkboard at your local school, and it is not as good as the music in Ape Escape 2 or Phantasy Star 4 , but the music still is something you'll want to turn the volume down if you think you can endure this game. If you turn the volume up, then you'll find yourself yelling stuff like ''Turn the music off!'' or ''Make it stop! Make it stop!''.
The difficulty? Well, it's hard enough to even pick UP this game let alone PLAY it. If you can find the strength, courage, and endurance to pick it up, then I will reward you with a nice tasty bag of Peach rings. And the game is pathetically easy if you can start it. The bosses are way too easy, and for an RPG (And almost all RPGs have at least 1 hard boss, Kingdom Hearts has Riku with the Keyblade, Golden Sun 2 has Agatio and Karst, Magi Nation has Zet, and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance had Mateus), all of the bosses are pathetic.
Replay value? Well, even IF you can even pick the game up, then don't replay it.
Overall: 2/10
If Sega had any plans of this game being a best seller, then they must have a very strange sense of humor. This game is simply terrible in just about every way. Don't buy it.
Buy or Rent?: Don't even think about playing it.
Best part: The Final boss
Worst part: About everything else in the game.
