"An awesome adventure game"
Don't let the name fool you, Scooby Doo Mysteries is an awesome game. The style is point-and-click which are very rare so it's a nice refresher on the genre. Let's dive deeper into the game to see what's so great about it.
Graphics - Wow, just wow. I think these graphics are awesome for a Genesis game. Lots of nice fluid animation. There's a smooth transition going from foreground to background with no glitches that I could see. All the characters look exactly like they do in the many cartoon series. The colors were done really nicely and the level of detail is great too. Now, comparing these graphics to modern-day games is unfair but these are definitely great graphics for a Genesis game.
Overall: Very nice graphics that deserve a 9/10.
Sound - Well, I can't say much for the sound. There is no voice acting. Instead, different colored text to represent different character's dialogue at the top of the screen. Voice acting would have been nice, but it doesn't really lessen the playing experience. The music is fine. It never got repetitive and it suits the game well. There are few sound effects but that's fine. Just the normal sounds of taking stuff and opening and closing stuff.
Overall: Nice sound that gets an 8/10.
Game Play - As stated before, Scooby Doo Mysteries is a point-and-click game. You control Shaggy as Scooby follows you around. You have a menu that lets you perform various actions and you spend most of your time collecting and combining items. I liked this idea and I hope to see more games implement it in the future.
Overall: Cool idea that deserves a 9/10.
Story - This is my least favorite department in the game. There are actually two separate stories, but man are they short. The first, is Blake's Hotel. In this one, Daphne's Uncle Blake's hotel has been haunted by a Native American chieftain ghost. As always, the gang comes in to save the day because everyone knows Native American chieftain ghosts don't exist. Well, the gang ditches Shaggy and Scooby so it's up to them to solve the mystery. The second story is the Ha Ha Carnival. In this one, the gang stops by a carnival for some good ol' fashioned fun but they must once again, solve a mystery. These stories aren't that great, but they are still fun. I really wish they would have made them longer.
Overall: Two stories for two times the fun, but too short. 6/10
Replay Value - Simply stated, none.
Overall: No replay value... 1/10.
Buy/Rent - Well, I'm pretty sure you can no longer rent this game so I'd suggest buying it if you can find it cheap.
Overall: Buy it if it's cheap, -/10.
So, there you have it, my explanation on why Scooby Doo Mysteries is such a great game. On a final note, hope this helps.
