Comix Zone

Review by Rick

"Original, but you won't want to come back to it."

Original. Or is it? It's your basic side-scrolling fighter (I prefer Maximum Carnage myself) but in a comic book style format. It's actually, kind of interesting. But it does get extremely repetitve.

Graphics: 8/10

All of the graphics in this game are very smoothly animated. It's a lot like what you imagine a moving comic book looks like. Attacks have a nice look to them that is reminsciant of Mortal Kombat in terms of style. Also, each different enemy has a nice individual look and attack system that makes the fighting part of this game all the more interesting. The bad part about this game is the ever-present glitchiness not to mention a retchid stench of slowdown in almost all levels. Hell, the game even freezes in some spots, but that is few, far between, and hard to make happen.

Sound: 6/10

Music is a reptitive and boring rock style soundtrack that leaves a lot to be desired. The only music I really enjoyed was the Boss Theme and the Ending Theme. The sound effects, on the other hand, were quite nice. Attacks had a decency in them beyond simple grunts. There's even a ''Hyyaaaa!'' here and there. That noise of Gravis' little spring projectile is one of the coolest noises I've ever heard. PUCHOO-BWAAAAYOOONG!

Gameplay: 4/10

This game is a lot of fun if you play it for the first time. It has a battle system that's fun to jump into and for the first 20 minutes you'll have a lot of fun with the waepons. But after a half-hour of the same ol' puzzles and the some ol' fights and the same ol' stereotypical bosses, the game gets quite boring. Seriously, there's not much replay value, but there is a weird feeling that makes you want to come back to it every now and then. Control I have no problems with, but once again it's still no Maximum Carnage. This thing is way too short, as well.

Overall Fun Factor: 6/10

Like I said, fun for the first 20 minutes. With a nice battle system but poor replay value, you'll come back to it, but only every now and then. (Like if your Dreamcast is in the shop and you let your one friend borrow your Saturn and you let that other friend borrow most of your Sonicx games. Then you might play it for a little while.) I say it's worth a rent, tops. That way, you only have to pay $2 if for some odd reason you want to play it again. Seeya! --Rick >:P
