Home Alone

Review by KRaffa

"Not bad, considering it is several years old..."

Home Alone is based on the movie of the same name. You take the part of Kevin, the child who was accidently left home, instead of vacationing. The plot follows that of the movie for the most part, in that robbers are ransacking homes, and it's your job to set traps and create weapons to stop the criminals while you wait for the police to arrive. While you wait, you rack up points based on the traps you set, the weapons you create, and how well you prevent the crooks in their quest to rob all the houses in the neighborhood.

Graphics: 7

Keep in mind that this is a Genesis game from the early '90s so there isn't much to see. The game was obviously rushed to get it out as fast as possible, right after the movie. The graphics do glitch now and again, but you eventually ignore them. The view switches between overhead and 2D sidescrolling, the latter being the most eye-pleasing.

Music/Sound: 6

The music is pretty corny and repetitive. You will get sick of it after a while. The sound effects aren't that bad, but they could have been better or more of a variety of them. The weapon sounds sometimes don't play properly or at all, and the music sounds like a broken record at times.

Gameplay: 8

Although the game will become repetitive after being played several times, Home Alone is an interesting twist on video game playing. The challenge is minimal, and even the average gamer can probably beat this on their first try.

Overall: 7

Home Alone is a game that is worth your time. Either buy it from an online auction or from a used game dealer. The game is different from other games out there and should be played by everyone, at least once.
