RoboCop Versus The Terminator
Review by Joeg19
"A Great Side-Scroller."
Robocop Vs. The Terminator. No, stop! Don't run away! Come back! It's not what you'd expect!
Really, it's not, because Robocop Vs. The Terminator is a rare thing; a movie-based game (although of course this game simply makes a game out of two famous film characters, rather than basing it on an actual film, as there is no Robocop Vs. The Terminator movie) that isn't a cash-in, and, therefore, a load of crap. Like Spider-Man 2 Knights Of The Old Republic, this is a game that, despite being connected to movies, does not fall foul of the trap that so many developers do- make a crap game, people will still buy it.
Graphics: Some fine visuals by Mega Drive standards, with both Robocop and Arnie looking good. Although the backgrounds rarely stray from dark, rough-looking neighbourhoods full of thugs, the graphics are nicely done overall.
Sound: The sound of Robocop Vs. The Terminator is adequate, while never being brilliant. The music is mainly techno (the opening level's music is techno with a man or woman occasionally saying "The Terminator") and is OK, and the sound effects are alright, but come on! Surely there could have been more Arnie quotes? Ah well.
Gameplay: Robocop Vs. The Terminator is a side-scroller that sees you take on the role of everybody's favourite cyber-law-enforcer, Robocop, in a battle against (yep, you've guessed it) The Terminator. You make your way through the levels by blasting anyone who gets in your way (with an array of weapons , including rocket launchers and flamethrowers) before facing the end-of-level boss (sometimes a particularly tough thug, sometimes a robot, or sometimes, of course, The Terminator).
Lifespan: Not too difficult to finish, although like with all side-scrollers it's really easy to dip into.
OVERALL: A fine side-scroller featuring two movie greats that doesn't fall into the usual movie licence trap? What are you waiting for? If you're a Mega Drive owner and you don't have this game in your collection, go get it now.
