"An arcade classic converted perfectly!"
Very few people will remember Truxton at the arcades, but it was one of my favorite games at the local movie theater that I would play as much as I could. This was one of the very first Sega Genesis games to be released, and one of the games which influenced me to purchase a Genesis back in the days of 16 bit glory.
Graphics
Very nice graphics for a 2D shooter. Truxton is a vertically scrolling game. The graphics are almost identical to it's arcade counterpart. There are some very cool weapon effects in this game, and the bosses just look totally awsome. The graphics are very colorful, and has very nice shading. Overall, very good animation.
Music/Sound
Average sound effects in Truxton. Just what you'd expect in a shooter. The music is decent as well, althought I hate that the music will start over if you pause the game.
Gameplay/Overall
This is a very fun shooter, although I wish it would have been made for 2 players simotaneously. Basically, just kill all the enemy ships, which can even come at you from directly below, and then destroy the boss at the end of each stage. This game does have some pretty cool weapons as well. My personal favorite is an electricity-like streaming weapon which, once fired upon an enemy, remains on that enemy no matter which direction you may move. It is the weakest of the three weapon types in the game, but you'll never miss. Your weapons, as well as ship speed, can be increased by collecting the floating pods which fly by every once in a while. You also have a bomb weapon, which will normally destory everything on the screen, with the exception stronger enemies. The bomb effect looks very cool and the explosion looks like a giant blue human skull. Overall, this game is a very cool arcade shooter, but be warned, it is very very difficult, and there are no known internal cheat codes or Game Genie codes. Be prepared to get very frustrated with this game every once in a while. So, if you are one of the few people who remember this game in the arcades or if you are just a fan of 2D shooters, this game just may be for you. However, this game came out for the Genesis back in 1989, so it may be pretty hard to get ahold of these days. Good luck!
